Jack (aka Lucky) had a tough start:

We were told about a sweet mama and her litter on the street, and knew we had to get them to safety. By the time we got there, poor Jack was in really bad shape. His eye was so infected (and painful!) that he had almost given up. His mama and brothers were together in their hidey-hole, and poor Jack was alone and exposed. He didn't have the energy to follow them, so mama cat had to make a tough choice and leave him behind. Little Jack looked so sad! We swooped him up and brought him to the vet, where he sat for days while they tried to get him strong enough for surgery. But Jack was in pain and scared, and didn't want to eat. Luckily, another vet felt confident he could save this kid's life , and he performed surgery to remove Jack's eye. The relief Jack felt was immediate. He started to eat again, and was reunited with his family. He was so happy! To see him playing and eating and snuggling with his mom and brothers was a beautiful miracle. Today, Jack is a confident, handsome little fellow who loves to play, but also loves to be held. Having one eye hasn't slowed this kid down one bit. (In fact, he thinks it's kind of cool...)
