My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Forget-Me-Nots are small, sometimes missed, flowers that symbolize true love, loyalty, and remembrance. At the Maryland SPCA, we classify a pet as a Forget-Me-Not to highlight an animal that may have some extra considerations for potential adopters to be aware of. Even though this pet may need a little extra TLC in order to fully bloom, we know they are still a strong candidate for adoption and they're sure to bring true love and loyalty into their new family. We hope you'll remember these beautiful creatures when you consider adopting.

Bear is a charming feline with a personality as unique as his name. At first glance, he may appear a bit reserved, but spend some time with him, and you'll discover his heartwarming nature. Bear is a cat who values communication, and he's a true talker, often expressing himself with long, slow meows that let his human know exactly what's on his mind. Although he's not a fan of dogs and prefers a dog-free household, he's the perfect companion for those with older children who can understand and respect his cat body language. His taste in food is as discerning as his character, and he's particularly fond of seafood cat foods. However, Bear's favorite activity is simply lounging around all day, basking in the quiet company of his loving human.

With his shy-to-sociable demeanor and a penchant for meaningful meows, Bear is a feline friend who, once won over, will become an indispensable part of your life. Whether you're having a heartfelt conversation with him or simply enjoying the peaceful moments spent together, Bear is a cat with a unique charm that's bound to leave a lasting pawprint on your heart.

From Bear's Foster:
Will Bear hibernate? Maybe the first day but not much longer. Bear loves his food and loves the lovin'! Each evening, after I feed him, I sit down to watch TV. Bear gets busy making biscuits on my lap. I kiss him on the head and he's loving every minute. We even rub noses! Sometimes I'll grab his favorite red mouse and fling it across the room cause Bear likes to go running for it! He'll even bring it back to me so we can keep playing. Then it's time for cuddles. He'll curl up by my side and off to dreamland. Will Bear see you in his dreams? If you're the lucky one he will!

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
