My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE NOTE -- THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING. SEE AKIRA'S CONTACT INFORMATION IN THE LAST PARAGRAPH. THANK YOU.

Meet Miss Akira, a gorgeous young lady whose name says it all - "Akira" means "bright, clear and ideal" in Japanese. It's no coincidence that she was given that name. Akira is bright, clear, ideal, and so much more -- loving, energetic, intelligent, and oh-so-pretty.

Akira is a spayed Pit Bull mix, black & white, one year seven months old, who weighs just over 50 lbs. She loves people, and due to the crowded conditions at the shelter where she lives, she has had to share her kennel with a roommate - she does just fine with other dogs of similar size and energy levels. And, just like her name says, she is an "ideal" lady - she tries to be housetrained and does her best to take care of her business outside of her kennel. And she sure appreciates it when her roommate does the same. Because she is so attentive to her human walkers and bright, Akira responds quickly to commands from her human, like sit and down, and she would love to learn more commands and a trick or two. With her young age and good energy, she loves running, jumping, hunting, wrestling, and chasing her shelter dog pals.

Because Akira has spent more than seven months of her 19 months on earth in a shelter, she doesn't know much about the outside world, so new people, places, and situations can make her anxious. But with an understanding, patient, and supportive owner who will give her positive reinforcement and help her build confidence, this beauty will be the Akira she was meant to be - the brightest and most ideal dog ever!

You can meet Akira at the San Diego County Animal Shelter North Campus, 2481 Palomar Airport Road, Carlsbad, CA 92011. The shelter is open for animal viewing Tue-Fri from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and Sat-Sun from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. You can also meet her at other times by scheduling an appointment at (619)767-2675. Be sure to mention Akira's ID number, which is A1910356.
