My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sharla! She came to us on June 10th with one other dog. This beautiful medium sized queen is in pursuit of her forever home! She has been nothing but a darling since being in our care and is extremely affectionate but due to her strength we recommend an adult-only home due to her needing to learn proper manners. She is also housebroken and ready to impress her new family with her skills!

Medically Sharla came to us in great health and has been able to stay healthy during her time with ACCT. She would be a great addition to have in your family and is the missing piece to your perfect home!

Sharla was lucky enough to go on a day trip with some of our foster parents on 7/4 and they noted: "Sharla sat patiently at lunch, took food gently, and was just genuinely happy to be at my side. She went on a hike where she showed her spunk-she was able to keep up on our 5 mile loop with our resident dog with no issues. She walked by dogs with ease, and was happy to splash around in the water for a bit! While I didn't particularly test her with cats, I think she'd prefer a home without them based on how badly she wanted to chase the chipmunks! After her hike, we gave her a bath to clean her off. It definitely wasn't her favorite part of the day, but she allowed us to do what we had to do. She is such a sweet soul that really just wants a human to snuggle up to and call her own."

Per Staff 6/20: "Sharla is an absolute delight. so easy. Allowed all over handling. Loves toys. Good dog fence meet with Blake Moore. I Know it is Playful and fun. No resource guarding at all."

Per staff 6/10: "When we entered the eval room I dropped the leash and let Sharla do her own thing. She explored the room a bit and did her business and eventually came wiggling over to solicit attention. She jumped right up on the bench and would climb on my lap, allowing all over handling with a loose wiggly body, soft eyes, and fast mid level wagging tail. She takes treats gently but will drop them. She loves peanut butter! Sharla is a very sweet silly girl, loves attention and running around playing. Loves tennis balls!

More about this shelter

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly also supports a foster care program where community members provide temporary homes for sheltered animals and one of the (if not THE) most extensive rescue partnership program in the country where approved rescue partners accept ACCT Philly animals into their adoption programs. Under contract ACCT Philly’s Animal Control Officers provide animal control services and code enforcement. Other exciting ACCT Philly programs include a food pantry for low-income pet owners, a vibrant volunteer program, trap-neuter-return for community cats, a unique Pen Pal program to assist dogs at risk … and so much more!
