My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I am Amon. I am from Missouri.

From the foster:
Amon - (The Hidden One) ... is a VERY good boy, learning to balance living his best life ever and controlling his exuberance for the same. Affectionate, playful, and non-aggressive...he loves to snuggle on the couch with a dog or human and interacts eagerly with others. Cats may be a step too far. He's learning boundaries with other dogs, and he's catching on quickly during organized play times. He loves kids, (although easily excited) and will make a lovely, active family dog.

He needs exercise! Loves to go for walks and explore the fenced yard for squirrels and bunnies! Strong pull on a harness or slip lead, but he does well on a Gentle Lead harness. He does fine with slower walks with big sister Lily, but appreciates going faster as well...so may do well with a jogger, etc. Eager to learn. Fetching a ball is lots of fun, which is a great backyard energy release...he also entertains himself with a stuffed animal in the yard. Loves to socialize with new friends, but usually the first meeting is chaotic.

Fully house-trained with timely trips outside. Waits by the door when he needs to pee or poop. Adapts well to a regular schedule. Modifies behavior with stern words alone, and then self-kennels himself. Will investigate dirty socks and waste baskets if allowed. Sleeps on the couch with Lily until 6 am, then outside to empty the tanks, and then snuggle on my bed for a bit before breakfast. He's fine in a kennel but doesn't usually need it. He does have some separation anxiety when left at home alone. This is MUCH better if a sibling dog is with him...(via Ring camera)...he cries/howls for about 15 minutes and then settles down for the rest of the time with Lily lying nearby. He does well in the car. He is very smart and picks up cues from Lily quickly.

I think Amon would do best in an active home with (hopefully) another dog to pal with and an adult around most of the time, whether a domestic engineer, work from home, or retired. A securely fenced yard is needed. Amon really needs a fenced yard for primary containment. We believe he has some "sighthound" breeding, which includes an instinct for hunting that will not be offset by invisible fencing or a yard lead. Training will also help... he's whip-smart and eager to please and comes when called...sometimes. (Likes treats.)

He has a lot of love and engagement to give to the right family. Finally, he is most handsome and photogenic!

Go meet their pets

The Bond Between's goal is to not keep any animals at our rescue office. The majority of our animals are living in foster homes until they are adopted. Occasionally, animals are living in our rescue office that are in need of a foster home.

If you would like to meet an animal at our office who needs a foster, please reach out to inofficeanimals@thebondbetween.org and fill out our foster interest form at https://www.thebondbetween.org/foster

More about this rescue

The Bond Between is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on the bond between humans and animals. We were founded in 2009 as Secondhand Hounds. Since then, we have rescued over 29,000 dogs and cats with the help of thousands of fosters, volunteers, and supporters in our community. Our organization has grown from a rescue to a first-in-its-class animal wellbeing organization... now The Bond Between! We continue to provide safe shelter, proper veterinary care, and daily necessities for animals while working hard to help them build a bond with humans. We also focus on supporting the bonds that already exist between people and pets with our pet food shelf, respite foster care program, and focus on social services.

We wake up every morning saying YES to connecting people and animals, caring for them, and helping them fill each other’s hearts.

You can help support us today by donating, fostering, volunteering, or sharing The Bond Between.
