My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Move over, Bullwinkle, because there's a new Moose in town! Hi, I'm Moose, and I am speaking to you from my stuffed animal bunker at SVASC. Currently, I am surrounded by 10+ stuffies, none of which I have destroyed and all of which I cherish, so I will do my best to keep my attention on writing this profile with high hopes that it might lead me to you, my forever buddy!

I might be on the other side of 15 years old, but I can still show up the youngsters with my random bouts of warp speed zoomies and youthful exuberance. My energy level is usually just about average, so that means I don't require a ton of exercise, but a good walk sounds just fine to me. I don't mean to brag, but cuddling and showering people in affection are kind of my areas of expertise. I'm great at gauging appropriate energy levels to have around different kinds of people. I know when to ask for tummy rubs or when to really let loose and throw a rumpus. I am truly happiest when I am snuggled up on the couch with a stuffy and a good Netflix special.

I only have one tiny special need. Sometimes, my eyes, paws, and ears get red and itchy from allergies. I need grain-free dog food so I can be my best Moose for you! I would be the best match for a home where I can really be the star of the show and not have to share the red carpet with other animals or young kiddos.

My adoption fee is $175 and all of my vetting has been completed. If you would like more information on me, please give SVASC a call at (540) 943-5142, email SVASC at ewiles@co.augusta.va.us. I am currently in foster care, so please call ahead and ask about Moose!

More about this shelter

Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center is an open admissions animal shelter and is home to dozens of animals looking for their forever homes. We are a Municipal pound for Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro so we take in all strays, abandoned animals, and owner surrenders. We have 40 dog runs and about 85 cat cages.

The Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center began operation in September of 2011. Since opening, we have successfully lowered the euthanasia rates for our community! Our shelter's current save rate is 95 percent, which is the direct result of our dedicated staff and volunteers working hard to finding these animals their forever homes. Please call the shelter with any questions regarding animals found on the website for more information.

We offer help to our community through education and assistance. With the help of other organizations we are able to spay/neuter animals in our community that the owners could otherwise not afford. With the help of our community we are on a mission to save every adoptable animal in our area.
