My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chard is the sweetest and most beautiful tuxedo cat who loves exploring and getting scritches. She is a very playful cat, and she has so much love to give. However, she had a hard life on the streets and will take a bit of time to warm up. If you are patient, you will be rewarded with incredible tenderness and affection from her. Chard is not picky about food and likes to hide in dark places, or high spots to observe everything in the room. In the late afternoon, she likes to come out and explore everything around her. Chard is a relatively quiet cat, hardly ever meows, and does not disturb unnecessarily. She is always so excited when you give her some cuddles. Chard knows her boundaries and will calmly let you know when she is overstimulated, but is not recommended for people with small children.

This cat needs to be adopted with a friend -- applications for them as a single cat will not be answered.

Chard was rescued with dental issues and recently had dental surgery. In lieu of an adoption fee, we would be thrilled for a potential adopter to for a larger adoption donation and/or assistance crowdsourcing funds towards their necessary vet bills if possible.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
