Hi, I'm Bates! I got my name from the Bates Bridge over the Congaree River where my foster mommy found me. She could tell I was very hungry, but oh so sweet! I love to give lots and lots of hugs and kisses. I never tire of them! I am quite the cuddler, so if you would like a cuddle buddy in your bed, I would be happy to oblige!
I am really enjoying running around the yard with my two big foster doggy brothers, playing fetch, and playing with my toys. I've never torn or chewed up anything, and I'm even left uncrated when my humans aren't home! I do chase cars so I need to be on a leash when not in a fenced-in yard.
I would love to join a family who can give me lots of affection and has other dogs so I can play with them. Please no children, though, and I'm unsure about cats- I haven't met any. I do need to be introduced to strangers slowly as I'm a bit fearful at first and my instinct is aggression (raised hair and growling). Once I know they're okay and I've had time to warm up, I'm back to my normal, affectionate self. My foster mom did take me to a brewery one day, and I did great on-leash around others! The loud band did scare me some, but otherwise, it was a great experience!
Unfortunately, I do need a family who can give me my heartworm treatment. The vet says my prognosis is good, though, because I'm young and haven't developed any symptoms. My last checkup indicated only a faint positive! I'm hoping my next checkup shows I'm heartworm-free.
Please let me be your new best friend! All I want is some love and a chance. Xoxo, Bates
