My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tres Leches! That's right... this guy only has three legs!

Tres Leches was born with three legs and had lived his entire life on the streets before he was brought inside.

He has lots of love to give and receive. He is a gentle boy and enjoys head scritches! After being indoors for a while, he is quickly embracing all the comforts (including eliciting some gentle chirps to let his foster mom know when it’s dinner time). When not playing and zooming with toys, he likes to lounge for hours on the gigantic bean bag, fluffy pillows, and any other suitable surface to his particular liking. He also likes to hang out with his foster brother and groom him (and be groomed). His trust in humans is growing daily with a healthy dose of consistent scritches, cuddles and yummy treats. He can run and jump as well as a four legged friend but might need some in between steps getting to higher spots.

Tres Leches is FIV+ and will live a normal healthy and long life when provided with quality care such as a balanced diet and yearly wellness exams (like any cat). As FIV+ is not transmittable between neutered/spayed cats under normal circumstances, we are happy for FIV+ cats to mingle with FIV- cats in their adoptive homes.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
