My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Yarborough. I'm a DSH black male, born approximately 06/13/22. My mom was a barn kitty in the Peyton area and my siblings and I were trapped during a TNR event. We didn't have much human interaction until we came to Wild Blue and learned all about love. I was adopted! Then, a few months later my health declined and I was taken to the ER where I was diagnosed with FIP. Wild Blue came to my rescue again and I started the long medication process and survived. I was growing in my trust as a kitten; however, the medication process stalled my progress. My wariness with quick hands and loud noises is fading, but still a worry at times. I'm relaxing more, and now that I know you want to give me love and not more medicine, my trust is much better. Nevertheless, a calm approach and some conversation goes a long way to accepting some head and cheek rubs again, and I'm back to leaning in for more. I'd avoid any petting on my lower back for now as it can be a touchy area due to the past FIP treatments. I am food motivated and very playful with feather wands. I will participate in gentle wand play with others close by and at night when all is quiet in my room, I will play with other toys independently. I love Churu treats and this is a good tool to establish a trusting relationship and set a calming tone. I am more at ease in a tranquil and steady environment. I am selective with other kitties; sometimes I am ok with them lying next to me and other times I prefer my own space. It all depends on their enthusiasm for cuddling. Cuddling is not my thing usually and I don't like being scruffed. Cat carriers can be scary but there are tricks to ease my anxiety. I need an experienced and patient adult who is willing to work with me on this marathon journey; I know I can get to the finish line with the right kitty lover! I will need some time to understand how my new house works, and starting in a small room will be less overwhelming and I can slowly expand my living area. All introductions with others should be slow and gradual, per Wild Blue's instructions. If you are the experienced cat lover that I'm looking for, please start by completing an application at www.wbcats.org/adopt.May 8, 2024, 1:32 am
