Meet Luca! This distinguished older gentleman came to us from a rural shelter outside Houston.
His owner passed away and he had been living alone for a long time. After alot of medical care, TLC and time he is feeling so much better and is now ready to find his forever home! (he still has some hair loss from his ordeal but it is getting fluffier every day!) Luca has one eye but it doesn't work so he is completely blind. He has some age-appropriate hearing loss but can definitely hear! But he is also very smart and learns his way around quickly (24 hours!). He is currently receiving a daily eye drop for dry eye and will need to continue that for life. He also has arthritis in his back and is taking a daily NSAID (galliprant) to keep him more comfortable. He is extremely sweet and loves taking a leisurely stroll around the block, sniffing around the yard and snacks. He is very friendly and gets so excited to meet new people. He also loves big fluffy beds and being under a blanket so he's looking for a home that is ready to spoil him rotten! He has started collected toys in his bed and at night before bed he likes to check to make sure they are still there - it's adorable! He is very gentle with them and does not tear them apart. He also likes doggy food puzzles and gets very excited to sniff out the food behind the closed doors! He has lived in two foster homes with other dogs and done really well - he is gentle and submissive. He is sweet and cuddly and loves to lay with his people. He is great at bath time and is happy to stand still patiently. The funniest thing about Luca is that he quite literally sings!! When he can't find his people or dinner is overdue he lets out a mournful howl that is so dramatic! It's hysterical! He loves a good nap (don't we all) and likes to sleep in late so if you're not an early riser, that's ok! His foster mom thinks he looks like The Prison Dog from Pirates of the Caribbean -and with just one eye, he just might have be a retired pirate! Luca is being fostered near Albany, NY and is available for adoption throughout the NE. Transport can usually be arranged if you are willing to meet half way.
