My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kaya, otherwise known as Xena, warrior princess. She was found in rough condition on the side of the road and even when in pain, discomfort and hunger she was an absolute teddy bear.
With a whole lot of love and care Kaya has made a full recovery and now needs her forever home.

First thing you will notice is her adorable face, kind eyes, sweet little pink patches and her brown freckles all throughout her silky white coat. Additionally I can confirm for you she has buttery soft velvet ears too. She gets along seamlessly with our two dogs (a red heeler mix and papillon for reference), our rough and tumble toddler, as well as our grumpy old cat. We also refer to her as the polar bear because she is nuts about water. If the sprinklers are running, she's in them. If you're using the hose, her face is right there. Kiddie pool, best believe she's going for a swim. And if a mud pit is available she will roll around in pure bliss before she lays out on the grass for an afternoon nap. If you need another selling point she attacks and kills wasps because she is fearless. She truly is a sweetheart but we did discover she has a deep intimidating bark when she feels a threat at the front door. It makes for fabulous burglar deterrent! While we do not know Kaya's exact age we assume she is about two years old. She has very young and lively energy so she needs a home with lots of space to run around and activities to keep her from getting bored. Both you and her will greatly benefit from bones, ropes and super chew toys. She LOVES to play tug-o-war, fetch, and romp around.

She has basic commands of sit and stay. Additionally any time she has slipped out of the back yard she doesn't go far and comes back when called. Full disclosure now, She is a hoss of a girl and has got muscle definition like you would see in sports illustrated. She doesn't love the crate and quickly proved to us that she can effortlessly clear 4 feet and scale to the top of our 6 foot fence when chasing those pesky squirrels. She is potty trained however not the best at vocallying telling you she has to go out so pay attention to her silent cues. She is a big piggy, willing to eat anything so don't leave food about and we have been making her use a slow feeder bowl to pace herself. Once she's worn out she will find a cool place to sunbathe or come and try and cuddle you like a giant teddy from the state fair.

She would do good with some more training as she gets overly excited when meeting new people and tends to jump up on them. Kaya really is one of the best dogs we've fostered and while she does get along with all creatures big and small she would do best in a home where she is the center of attention or one other big dog like herself to wrestle with. Her perfect match is an active owner who will take her on hikes, lots of walks and doesn't mind a furry permanent shadow by their side. We know you will quickly fall in love with her goofy sugary sweet spirit!

Kaya is participating in The Love Pit's iRehome program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster. All behavior and medical information is provided by their caretaker, and TLP encourages all adopters to verify the information with their caretaker prior to adoption.

Additional adoption info

Adopting from The Love Pit means gaining a family member. It means gaining a network of pit bull advocates, ready to support you and provide you with all of the resources we can. Most importantly, adopting from The Love Pit saves lives. When you adopt, you're saving the life of your own dog, opening space in their foster home for another shelter dog in need, and creating space in the shelter kennel for a dog whose life would have otherwise been on the line. Your thanks for all the good you've done? Lots of love and pit bull kisses to enjoy for years to come.

Go meet their pets

We have monthly adoption events at different locations in Dallas and Fort Worth which are announced on our social media pages and will also be posted on our website.

We will also set up an appointment with you to meet the dog of your choosing.
