My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jaya is an amazing survivor. He was likely hit by a car. Then, found hiding in the bushes of a drive thru, people took a picture and posted it to social media instead of stopping to help. It took hours for a rescuer to find him and save him.
Once he was safe, he was taken to the shelter for care and treatment. X-rays showed a broken leg and pelvis. Due to the grave extent of his injuries, he had only 48 hours to be pulled from the shelter of he would be euthanized.
Boxers and Buddies pulled out all the stops: We found transport to a local airport, a pilot that would volunteer to fly him to Truckee, another volunteer that would drive to Truckee to bring him to Reno, yet ANOTHER volunteer that would foster him and get him to Animal Emergency Center to be seen and evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon.
Within 5 days of being found, Jaya was the recipient of a $6,000 surgery that would help him once again be able to walk.
Jaya has the most wonderful temperament. He is a calm, but affectionate puppy. His little puppy heart wants nothing more than to be a normal puppy. He is doing so well after his surgery. He is getting stronger every day, increasing his range of motion, and is learning how to navigate the world pain-free.He has been wonderful in every situation that he has been in. He wants to be BFFs with every person and everything he meets. He has best friend doggy friends, best friend kid friends, and best friend adult friends. I have yet to see him meet someone where he is not there instant BFF. He would be BFFs with a lamp if he could!
Any of Jaya’s follow up treatments and physical therapy will be covered by the rescue. He would love to find a home of his own where he can recover and grow. As he ages, he may have arthritis and a limp, but the surgeon doesn’t expect any further complications.

More about this rescue

Boxers and Buddies Boxer Rescue is a nonprofit organization founded in 2005. Our parent organization (the well-known Boxer Rescue Los Angeles (Boxer Rescue Fund Inc.), was founded in 1977 out of love and fierce determination by Ursula Sauthier.

Today, Boxers and Buddies provides a safe, humane sanctuary for abandoned Boxers and others who are waiting to be adopted.

Boxers and Buddies is funded solely by private donation. Our entire organization is run by a dedicated team of volunteers. Our group works for the love of the breed and to see dogs find homes.

Our available dogs come from local shelters, from the streets or from owners who turn them in. We are always filled to capacity with scared, confused and very stressed out dogs. They are with us because Boxers and Buddies is their last hope of finding a new life. We are their temporary haven until they are adopted into a loving permanent home.

Before they can be adopted, each dog is evaluated for temperament, must be sterilized, microchipped and their shots are updated. Boxers and Buddies has a training program for those dogs who need rehabilitation or have behaviors which need to be modified.

Boxers and Buddies and Boxer Rescue LA stand apart from other rescues by rescuing any Boxer, regardless of age or health. We feel that they are all worthy of a real chance at life. This policy means that we are subject to frequent and expensive veterinarian costs. Medical expenses are only one of the major cost Boxers and Buddies has to pay each year. The cost are endless: food, shelter fees, medical bills and the costs go on and on. Saving lives is not cheap but someone has to do it!

We are constantly seeking funds and support. We need your help.

We depend on our donors and our volunteers to keep B&B open to any Boxer in need. We appreciate your compassion by including a rescue Boxer into your life. Please spread the word and continue to support our efforts.
