My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Patch is an excitable guy who needs lots of attention from his humans. He enjoys sitting on a lap (all 48 pounds of him!) and being petted. He is loving and affectionate. He is alert and attentive. He loves to jump and can go straight up with all four legs leaving the ground at once. He enjoys leading while on a leash but calms down significantly after his initial "let's-go" excitement. While off leash, he won't run away. He sits a lot for no reason and will also sit when you ask him to. He also knows the stay and fetch commands. He is house trained and knows how to use a doggie door. He has lots of energy and enjoys agility, car rides, running, fetch, tugging, toys, and walks. He likes to play "chase" with anyone who will play. He is easygoing but cautious around some dogs, friendly with others, and may not like some. He behaves well at the dog park. You should bring your dog to meet him to be sure they get along. He hasn't been around children and needs to live with kids at least 12 years old because of his size, jumping, and an occasional nip when he wants attention. With a little training and a whole lot of love, Patch will be a great companion who will be forever loyal. Please consider adding Patch to your family. (tw 5/3/2024)

More about this shelter

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
