While at the shelter meeting another Shepherd, we were told that there was an urgent dog in the medical ward that we needed to see. Clearly in pain and very uncomfortable, this sweet boy crawled to the front of the cage (cone and all) to get his chin scratched. While reading over his medical record, the notes were from an ER clinic where he had received urgent care from. He had been hit by a car and brought in by some Good Samaritans who had found him. He was in pretty critical condition and the emergency hospital jumped in to save him- even doing a chest tap to get some free air and fluid removed. This definitely saved his life as he had developed a pneumothorax and multiple pulmonary contusions. In addition to the chest injuries, he also sustained injuries to both right and left legs leaving him with open wounds. Scar was moved over to the County Animal Shelter as he did not have any identification on. His condition stabilized while at the shelter, but he needed more care than the shelter could provide. We made arrangements to get Scar out of the shelter and seen by our partner specialists. Scar was quickly diagnosed with a scapular fracture in addition to the injuries we already knew about. Casting, crate rest and pain meds were needed. Scar landed in a wonderful foster home who has nursed him back to health! Scar is now healed up and ready for a home of his own. At about 2 years old, he likes other dogs plus children and loves a good toy! He is a very sweet boy who would really like to find his forever family. The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
