Twig was surrendered to GPG because his caregiver was overwhelmed. He is older, about 14 years old and his life has been marked by chronic illness. You see, Twig is what we call a "chronic snuffler." This is a cat who is affected by chronic rhinitis and sinusitis (respiratory and sinus infections). This can occur early in life due to infectious disease, but as chronic changes (scar tissue) develops, the nasal anatomy changes and predisposes these creatures to chronic snuffling/sneezing. His symptoms can wax and wane, but Twig usually has some degree of sneezing, nasal discharge, and noisy breathing sounds, (this would be comparable to a person with a deviated septum due to chronic sinus infections). We are having some success managing his symptoms with medication, but the expectation is that he will need to be managed forever, never cured.
Twig has personality-plus and despite his hardship, his spirits are never down! We'd love to give this guy a golden parachute into a loving hospice like home for whatever amount of time he has left.
As of right now our testing indicates that Twig isn't chronically shedding infectious disease, but it's still prudent that he be the only cat, (or kept separate from other cats that aren't already chronic snufflers). If your home may fit this profile, please put in an adoption application today!
All of our dogs and cats will be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations at the time of adoption.
