My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Wenzel! He is a two year old red American shorthair. He is smart and independent and enjoys oranges and bell peppers. He is bonded with baby Pretzel.

Every piggy at Cavies and Canines Animal Rescue are quarantined before adoption and undergo a health and behavior evaluation before they are available. All females are put on a 10 week pregnancy watch. CAC will also provide free nail trims and health checks for all adopters.

If you would like to visit a piggy, we do provide meet and greet sessions to get to know them better. If you are looking to find a buddy for your existing piggy, we can help organize bonding sessions to make sure it's a good match.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoptions are based on an application process, which includes a vet reference and sometimes a home visit. Our dogs (and cats, when we have them available for adoption) have completed their age-appropriate shots, are dewormed, spayed/neutered and heartworm tested/treated before adoption.
Our guinea pigs are available for adoption ONLY as same-sex pairs or as a friend for an existing guinea pig(s). Females are placed on 10-week pregnancy watch before adoption, and all undergo a health/behavior evaluation and are treated for parasites, if needed. Guinea pigs will only go to homes with appropriately sized housing, which we offer for sale at discounted rates.
We require surrender and adoption contracts for the safety of our animals, foster families and future adopters. Animals that are adopted from us must be returned to us and not rehomed or taken to a shelter if circumstances change.

Go meet their pets

We are a foster home based rescue. We encourage appointments Friday-Monday for families to come meet our available pets.

Those with single guinea pigs looking for a friend are encouraged to bring them over for a "piggin play date" to ensure it is a good match.

More about this rescue

Our goal is twofold – to provide homeless pets with loving homes and provide judgement-free advice to their well-intentioned human family members to facilitate the happily ever after. We find that guinea pigs are commonly incorrectly perceived as “starter pets” for kiddos, and given up or abandoned when it becomes clear that they can be higher maintenance, more expensive or more fragile than expected. It’s also why one of our main goals at Cavies and Canines is education – we want your family to find a pet that is the perfect fit for them … a win-win for everyone! Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment to an animal that will be your loving companion and your best friend. Our goal is to keep animals in loving homes and off the streets and out of shelters.
