My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Clove is such a fun dog! She's very athletic and loves to run! Shes also very cuddly and loves everyone she meets, but seems to love men even more. Her recall and leave it are fantastic and she knows sit and lie down, but has a "what's in it for me attitude until she completely respects you. She's easy to train because she's food motivated, toy motivated, and loves to learn.
When hanging out around the house, Clove likes to know where I'm at but does go hang out in another room occasionally. For being a young, high energy dog she is really nice at home. She's well behaved and matches our energy, relaxing when we're hanging out and playing when it's time to play. She loves her ball and stuffies but the stuffies don't always last very long around her. Clove will paw at the door when she needs to go outside and she stays off all the furniture.
She is pushy and tests boundaries, but respects me when I stay firm. There are some guarding issues with her food so I've started hand feeding her and asking things of her instead of just giving her a bowl of food. She also doesn't like when the resident dog approaches her toys, food, or kennel but he's respectful of her space and I'm working with her on that as well. She is car reactive, so I wouldn't recommend off leash training, but we're working on her leave it command and she's getting better. Clove needs regular exercise, but even on the days I don't get her out for a long walk she's still a good girl.
Clove would do best in a home that has experience with working breeds and would do fine with older children who understand her boundaries. We've met some cats on our walks and she is curious, but doesn't seem to see them as prey. She needs regular activity such as a combination of long walks/runs, playing fetch, and puzzle toys but if you only get her out of the house every other day, she can handle that too.
Clove really needs to find a good, active home, she's been at the rescue for far too long and would make a great family pet!

Additional adoption info

For us, the adoption process begins the day we take a dog or cat into our rescue. It’s a huge responsibility, taking in a lost soul and promising them a happy life, but we are pretty proud of the forever families we’ve helped create because our adoption process is so thorough.

The first step in adopting is to fill out the adoption application. This helps our volunteers understand what kind of new friend you are looking for, and allows us to identify any issues that would prevent us being able to place certain animals in certain homes. For example, breed restrictions in your town or apartment complex, etc…

The Beauties will conduct a vet check to make sure the pets you currently have are all up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed or neutered. We will also contact you to set up a home visit, where we can make sure that the home you have meets the needs of the animal you are interested in. Example: fence height for dogs who are jumpers, stairs for dogs who have mobility challenges, etc… We try to troubleshoot any potential problem areas and offer friendly advise so that our ultimate goal, a forever happy match, can be achieved.

After the application process is complete, the real fun begins! It’s time for Meet-N-Greets! We have a professional dog trainer on our board of directors, and we can schedule her assistance in helping you with dog-to-dog introductions while you are searching for your new family member. It’s amazing how often the existing family pet has a little something to say about who they want to spend time with and having a pro help out makes the potential for a successful intro go through the woof! We mean, roof!

Once you have decided on the dog or cat of your dreams, all that is left to do is sign the adoption contract and pay the fee, which includes all vaccinations, microchip and spay/neuter.

More about this rescue

Beauties and Beasts is a state-licensed 501(c)(3) death row rescue located in Wichita, Kansas. Since our founding in October 2014, we have been able to save the lives thousands of death row animals, we have also been able to network out thousands more animals to other rescues. We are a completely 100% volunteer run rescue, we also rely on 100% donations from our followers and supporters to carry out our mission to save animals in our community.

Our purpose is to rescue death row animals from the shelter and in our community and place them in foster homes where they can receive the care and training needed to become family pets. Our main mission is to change these animals’ worlds one rescue at a time. Another large part of our mission is to be a voice for animals in need throughout our community and we are proud to say we have been able to make an impact on the streets of our city as well.

We do not discriminate against breed, age, medical needs, or behavior. We love ALL animals and breeds the same.
