My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Harley is an absolute joy! Whatever your plans, he wants to be included. Sunrise, winter jog? He'll race you to the door! Late morning sleep-in? He's snuggled up with you, no interruptions.

Harley's foster home is just one quiet person, so he's usually a couch potato. He is naturally a very high-energy pup and would probably benefit from running a couple miles a few days a week. As soon as he sees another person or dog, he's excited and bouncing around wanting to say hi and play. He's working on "all four" and "with me" to stop jumping and lunging.

Harley's foster speaks to him in English and Korean, and he's learned commands and positive feedback in both! Try "sit" and "paw;" Harley LOVES hearing "good boy!," "good job, buddy!," and "who's the best?!" in both languages.

Harley is a super happy pup who loves to play and nap and has not shown any signs of aggression. He's popular around the neighborhood for how cute and curious he is; he loves people waving at him through store windows.

Favorite snacks: CHEESE OF ANY KIND! And blueberries, carrots, and super crispy apples (no cores)
Likes: pinwheels, Bob's Burgers TV show, tug of war, solar charging (napping in the sun)
Much prefers stuffies to rip apart over balls or rubber chew toys

Approx 4 year old as of Nov 2023; 60 lbs
Been with foster since Dec 12, 2023; neutered Jan 22, 2024
Came to ACCT as stray, allegedly owner passed away
Already knew "sit" and was house-trained; has learned "paw," "leave it," "redirect;" working on "with me," "all four"
Food focused but does not resource guard; takes treats from hand gently
Excitement and play show as jumping and mouthing
Crates well enough; might bark and whine but settles down within minutes
Rowhome neighbors don't hear him bark much when left alone
Calm on car rides
Did well with other dogs while at ACCT; hyper/reactive while on foster walks probably due to daily boredom (excited, not aggressive)
Prefer adults-only or older kids
Cat tolerance unknown
Prey drive for squirrels

Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately.

Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat.

Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.

All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313

More about this shelter

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly also supports a foster care program where community members provide temporary homes for sheltered animals and one of the (if not THE) most extensive rescue partnership program in the country where approved rescue partners accept ACCT Philly animals into their adoption programs. Under contract ACCT Philly’s Animal Control Officers provide animal control services and code enforcement. Other exciting ACCT Philly programs include a food pantry for low-income pet owners, a vibrant volunteer program, trap-neuter-return for community cats, a unique Pen Pal program to assist dogs at risk … and so much more!
