My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Crystal: The Quirky, Curious, and Comical Canine!

Looking for a furry companion to add a sprinkle of laughter and a dash of quirkiness to your life? Look no further than Crystal! This delightful 6-year-old, 49lb bundle of enthusiasm is on a quest to find her forever home, where she can unleash her unique charm and inquisitive spirit!

Crystal may be small in stature, but her personality is larger than life. With an insatiable curiosity for exploring every nook and cranny, she approaches life with boundless enthusiasm and an unwavering sense of wonder. From sniffing out hidden treasures to investigating mysterious shadows, Crystal is always on the lookout for her next great adventure.

Despite her playful antics, Crystal is a diligent student when it comes to training. Currently mastering commands like "leave it" and "drop it," along with perfecting her leash skills, this determined pup is eager to show off her newfound talents to her forever family.

In addition to her training endeavors, Crystal is also a pro at crate time! She delights in cozying up with her favorite toy or snack in her crate, signaling with enthusiasm when she's ready for some out-of-crate playtime. And while she's mostly housebroken, Crystal is always eager to continue refining her skills and impressing her humans with her impeccable manners.

When it comes to socializing, Crystal is a social butterfly through and through. Eager to meet every dog and person she encounters, she approaches each interaction with excitement and enthusiasm. As a rowdy player, Crystal thrives in the company of other dogs but would benefit from meeting potential playmates to ensure compatibility.

While Crystal's exuberance knows no bounds, she's not quite suited for young kids due to her occasional mouthiness. However, for adults seeking a canine companion brimming with personality and charm, Crystal is the perfect match!

So, if you're ready to embark on a journey filled with laughter, love, and countless adventures, look no further than Crystal! Swing by her foster home today and discover the joy of welcoming this quirky little girl into your heart and home. Crystal can't wait to dazzle you with her unique personality and become the furry friend you've always dreamed of! Please email dogfosters@barcs.org for the next steps to meet this wonderful pup!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

BARCS takes in new animals in need of a loving home every day. The pictures above only represent a portion of the animals that are available for adoption at any given time. Some animals get adopted immediately and their photos never make it onto our website—which is wonderful! If you don’t see what you are looking for, please visit our shelter to meet your perfect match today! Adoption fees are $75; however, we offer several adoption packages listed here. Our adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 2-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Step 1: Check out the adoptable cats, dogs and small companion animals listed on our website. Animals with a blue “I’m in Foster” banner are not currently in our shelter. Check www.barcs.org for our adoption process for animals in foster homes.

Step 2: Visit our shelter during adoption hours (Monday-Friday 2-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). When you arrive, you will first be asked to fill out our Shelter Adoption Application with your information. You may also pre-fill our Shelter Adoption Application ahead of time online to save time when you are at the shelter. Your application will be processed after you meet the animal.

Step 3: Tour our adoption rooms and write down the names of animals that you would like to meet. A volunteer or staff member will help you meet your chosen animals to make a match!

Step 4: When you have selected the right animal for you, our Adoptions Team will run your Adoption Application for approval. Once your application is approved, you will participate in an adoption class where you will learn all of the details about your new adopted family member, including their known history and medical records.

What else to expect: Animals who are already spayed/neutered and past their stray hold (if applicable) can often go home with you the same day. Pick-up arrangements for unaltered animals and/or animals still on a stray hold will be made during your adoption class.

More about this shelter

BARCS is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization operating Maryland’s largest animal shelter and pet adoption center. We are an open admission shelter, granting refuge to every abandoned, neglected, abused, lost or surrendered animal that comes through our door. A staggering 30 or more animals are surrendered to BARCS every day. No matter what the circumstance, we do not turn away any animal in need of shelter, food, medical care and a loving touch. Yearly, this equates to more than 12,000 dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, and even wildlife and exotic animals that need care and placement.
