My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

Meet Zae! She was an owner surrender with 9 other littermates - several rescues stepped in to find homes for the large litter. Daddy is a Red Nose Pitbull, Mommy is a Blue Nose Pitbull. These puppies were not relinquished until they were 15 weeks old, so in foster, everything was new to Azalea. She mastered crate training, housebreaking, leash walks, and even loves car rides. Fast forward five months. For some reason, Zae was the shyest of the litter. In her first foster home, we worked with trainers to evaluate her. Zae is the nicest girl once comfortable - as in just a few days. She warmed up to one of our executive directors (with yummy treats) and did great in the park walk.

After a few months, we moved Zae from her initial foster home and put her into a foster home that works with 'fraidy cat' type dogs. It took Zae about three days... and then she was all tail wags. Zae also goes on walks with our friend Olive from BarkTrek. The over all feeling is that it's a matter of exposure and time. Zae is beautiful, but powerful looking. What Zae needs is a confident dog owner that will give her 3 days to a week to just be, and adjust in a new home. Once she figures it out - she will be all cuddles and loves.

She needs a family that is willing to start taking her on mini outings to learn the world is not so scary. Her current foster says she loves the car. When the foster takes out her harness, Zae knows it's travel time. Her foster has brought her to the local brewery, to friend's homes, to the pet store. And slowly, Zae has adjusted. She's never shown any 'aggression' just fear.

We are looking for a more local family (Snohomish County) that can do meet and greets with her prior to taking her home. A home with another playful, friendly dog is a must. She's still very much a puppy and loves to play! Azalea will likely be in the 70# range when fully grown. She is 10 months old right now and a solid girl. Ideally a large fenced yard, and no small children. She's friendly, but kids present an unknown energy - friends, etc. She loves her foster's older teen sons, even waiting at their door for them to wake up and jump in bed with them. An adult home would be great. Her foster homes have both cats and dogs, she's GREAT with the dogs and a little interested in the cats... so a dog savvy feline would be necessary. She is very food motivated.

This dog is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.

Save-A-Mutt requires a training contract and $100 refundable deposit (depending on previous dog experience) on our larger breed dogs. You pick a trainer in your area, and upon completion of a 6+ week training class, we will refund the deposit.

Adoptions typically take place in Marysville. Zae is ready for her new home!

Adoption fee is $325 + $100 refundable training deposit. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your puppy.
