My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🛑🛑 Friends, PLEASE pump the brakes! Rascal’s story is one you don't want to miss. 🛑🛑

4 years ago, an emaciated and neglected 1 year old Rascal was surrendered to animal control by terribly abusive owners. This poor boy had every bone in his sweet body poking through his skin, but somehow his spirit never waivered. He went to a shelter where he was delighted by the kindness of the staff and the regularity of food, something he hadn't known yet in his short life. What he and the shelter workers didn't know is that his small cage would define the next 4 years of his life, as day after day would pass without a loving family showing up to finally take him home.

One of our amazing foster moms saw a plea for help from the shelter and her heart broke after learning that this sweet dog, described as a total gem, had lived his entire life either horribly abused or in the loud, crowded confines of a shelter. She headed down to meet him, almost not believing that a dog could experience all this hardship and still be as sweet, kind, and happy as the shelter workers described him. Upon arriving, she was pleasantly surprised to meet this gem of a boy and knew she had to intervene. Thus Rascal’s rescue story with CPR began.

Rascal is currently in foster with 8 (!) other dogs and he’s doing awesome! He’s fully house and crate trained, walks super nice on leash, loves car rides, and simply can't get enough snuggle time and butt scritchins’ from anyone with a free hand. And while Rascal has been great with the other doggos in foster, he’s learning to live in a home for the first time ever, so we think a home without a dominant male dog would be best for him so he has some space to stretch out and experience all the things he’s missed out on. Like falling asleep with his head in the lap of his favorite human. Like getting the zoomies and having the space to rip around the yard without restraint. Like snuggling with his humans and having them say it's the best part of their day.

Sweet Rascal has defied all of the odds and come out the other side of his terrible situation with hope and love, and shown resilience above that of most dogs (or even humans). We see a lot in rescue, but this is one of the rare cases where even we can't believe the horrible cards one sweet soul has been dealt, and we’re thrilled to hopefully be the turning point for this very goodest boy. Rascal just needs someone, for the first time in his life, to give him a chance at a happy ending. Are you the saving grace Rascal has been waiting for?

Rascal is spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. This dog has tested negative for heartworms. The adoption fee is $450 if your adoption is prepaid and final prior to your dog's arrival. An additional $50 will be charged on dogs that are picked up from our Southbury CT adoption center, adopted at an event, or foster home. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with CT HB 5368.
