My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Pickles and I am looking for a home where I can be the sole queen of the home! I do not like sharing my space with other cats or dogs. I have decided that everything is mine and I do not compromise. I love food, you will give me treats (especially churro!) and I expect nothing less. I will let you know when I want attention and pets which is not all the time because I have plenty of things to do to oversee my kingdom. I may swat at you if you are not giving me attention to my liking. I am a very particular kitty and again, I know no compromise. I cannot wait to find my perfect home to rule, uh, I mean be an equal contributing member of. Are you willing to be my subject?

I am positive for FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus), which means I can only live with other FeLV+ kitties, dogs, or non-cat animals (however, I do not like any animals anyway). FeLV is species-specific and only contagious to other cats. FeLV is similar to being immunocompromised in humans and doesn't prevent me from living a happy, healthy life!

Because of my diagnosis, my adoption fee is waived!

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of North Central Florida was created in 2018 when the leadership of the Alachua County Humane Society, Gainesville Pet Rescue, and Helping Hands Pet Rescue decided to permanently join forces. By becoming the Humane Society of North Central Florida, our organizations were able to effectively streamline services for pets and pet owners, eliminate any duplication of services, maximize our community’s resources, and improve the life-saving abilities of the entire region.

Our founding organizations have been dedicated to serving pets in Alachua County for more than 40 years. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is a limited intake, no-kill animal rescue shelter. The animals in our facility are transferred from open-intake and/or managed admission municipal shelters across North Central Florida. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is an independent, local 501(c)(3) organization. As such, we do not receive funding from federal agencies, nor are we affiliated with any other state or national organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA.
