Please read Race’s bio in its ENTIRETY! If you are interested in adopting, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Our application can be found on our website.

We are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved complete applications will be contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL and be able to drive for a meet and greet/adoption.

Race is exactly the dog you see when you search "Jack Russell Terrier", so we are seeking a home that can match his speed! We can't say for certain if he is 100% JRT, but his energy certainly is.

The people that brought Race home were not prepared for his breed or energy. They quickly realized they were not going to be able to make him happy, so they reached out to rescue. We know that we have the resources to find just the perfect family for Race, we just have to connect with them!

We have tried to work with Race on leash training, his response so far is to alligator roll every time. He needs a secure fence for now, if you want him to continue going potty outside. We have no doubt that leash training is in his future, he just needs more practice.

Speaking of potty training, Race is doing fabulous in his foster home. He runs right out, does his business, bosses a few squirrels & birds, then runs back inside for his reward.

Race loves toys, he particularly likes to play ball. He would do just fine as an only dog, as long as you have plenty of time to dedicate to play time & activities. If you have dogs in the family already, we will definitely want to do a meet & greet with them. JRTs are known to have big personalities in little bodies. If you have older dogs or dogs that prefer to lounge more, this is not a good fit. Race will bug them & taunt them to play with him. He is relentless. And that would be very unfair to Race & your existing dogs.

It is important to note that Race doesn't appreciate being in a kennel. He gets stressed out & uncomfortable (maybe it's all that energy!). In foster, he has proven to be trusted when left in a dog-proof area of the home while the humans are away. And he is a very good car rider, kept safe by being locked into a seatbelt on his harness.

Race is ready to bounce into his new home & bring the energy. Fill out an application if you meet the requirements & are ready to give Race the perfect forever home!
