My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Buddy

Buddy is a very handsome Black Lab, who was thought to be a senior, when he was pulled from a high-kill shelter in Kentucky. We are not so sure he’s that 10+ year-old as we were told. Sure, Buddy has that frosted face typical of a senior but most likely because he’s had a very tough neglectful life.

After just a few days of realizing he’s safe, in a foster home with many canine friends, Buddy has proven to be playful, very sociable, and up for any adventure that comes his way!! He loves to give kisses to his new human as well as canine friends, chewing on chewy bones, barking at annoying people and things (and also when he’s anticipating breakfast or dinner!) and relaxing in the sun. He also likes to play outside with a couple of the younger dogs he has befriended.

An ideal family and home for Buddy is one willing to commit to ensuring Buddy receives a good balance of activities, socializing, cuddling and napping. He’d really enjoy the company of one or two other mature adult dogs in the family; he’s good with female and other male dogs!! (We do not know how he is with cats). At times Buddy can be very enthusiastic, jumping up and down (but NOT jumping on people!!); this could be a bit much for smaller children. However he would enjoy the companionship of older kids in the family. A secure fenced yard would also be ideal for Buddy, since he enjoys hanging out in the sun.

Overall, Buddy is an absolutely perfect boy….friendly, sociable, well behaved, a quick learner and of course very handsome.

Buddy is fully vetted. He is up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention, neutered and microchipped. He weighs about 60 lbs, a perfect weight for him! In his foster home, Buddy has proven himself to be fully housebroken. But….it is important to recognize that no dog should be forced to “hold it” for more than six hours at any time.

If you might be interested in adding Buddy to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895 to obtain an adoption application.

Note that Buddy is currently being fostered in Barrington IL; we adopt only local to the area.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

1. Complete B.A.A.R.K.’s adoption application in its entirety. Prior to submitting an application for a particular pet, we encourage you to research the breed so that you understand the characteristics and needs of the animal.

2. After submitting the application, a B.A.A.R.K. adoption coordinator will contact you (assuming you are the primary caregiver to/adopter of the new pet) to review your application and conduct an initial phone interview.

3. A representative of B.A.A.R.K. will contact your references and verify the veterinary information that you have provided on the application for pets currently or previously owned. Please be sure you inform your references that you have provided their contact information to B.A.A.R.K. and that they will be contacted.

4. If, at any time during the adoption process, we conclude that the pet of interest is not a good match for your household, your application will be kept on file for one year. You will not be required to complete another application during that time period if you find another pet you are interested in adopting from B.A.A.R.K. Rescue.

5. After the initial phone interview, if B.A.A.R.K. has decided that the pet of interest to you may be a good fit for your household, a “meet & greet” will be arranged, either at the home of the foster family or at your home. If the first visit is preferred to take place at the foster home, a second visit will be arranged at your home.

6. B.A.A.R.K. will bring the pet of interest to your home for a meeting with ALL family members and ALL other pets within the household. The purpose of the home visit is to ensure that the pet you have chosen is appropriate for your living situation and lifestyle. Please note that ALL FAMILY MEMBERS AND ALL FAMILY PETS MUST BE PRESENT FOR THE IN-HOME INTERVIEW. More than one meeting may be required during the adoption process to ensure the best placement possible for the pet and the household.

7. When you have made the decision to adopt a pet from B.A.A.R.K. Rescue, we ask that you to spend 1-2 days thinking about the decision, in order to ensure that you are making the best choice for the pet and your family. A same day adoption is NEVER an option.

8. Once the decision is made to proceed with the adoption, an adoption contract must be reviewed, completed, and signed. B.A.A.R.K.’s adoption fee is non-refundable. You may also be asked to provide a separate check(s) of $150 as a fence deposit, obedience training deposit, and/or spay/neuter deposit. Check deposits will either be destroyed or returned upon completion of the required action.

Go meet their pets

B.A.A.R.K. schedules meet-and-greets with potential adopters at times mutually agreeable to both parties. These typically take place at the potential new home.
