Dog Name: Denali
Breed: Catahoula/Pit mix
Sex: F
Age: 3 years
Weight: 60 lbs
Medical needs: Zero!
Housebroken: yes, on a routine/schedule.
Crate trained: Yes. She goes in without issue. Sleeps quietly and sometimes retreats to it for a nap.
Good in the car: Yep. She’d much prefer to be your co-pilot though. She needs a seatbelt
Good on a leash: Denali loves to go for walks. Sometimes she gets excited and pulls. She is pretty easily redirected, with continued work on the leash, she is learning not to pull. She does seem to be exhibiting some protective behaviors and barks at strangers and dogs, so sometimes she needs a vibe check. In general, she walks well.
Energy level: Medium to low. Denali enjoys a good game of fetch and will also entertain herself with toys or bones. She equally enjoys lounging around the house and spends most of the day snoozing.
Need a fenced in yard: No. But she does love to be outside, leashed of course, if no fence.
Dog Friendly: Denali lives with two resident dogs, male and female, and they get along well. She will do best with dogs her size or bigger, she likes to rough house. Denali was a bit nervous and insecure at first so she required a slow introduction. She shouldn’t be forced to interact with any dogs immediately and may require space in her crate and time to observe before meeting. But, yes she is very dog friendly.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive home: No.
Cat friendly: Unknown, but my gut says nope.
Kid Friendly: Yes If yes, what's the youngest age: Denali currently lives with a 10 and 14 yr old. She adores them. In her previous home, she had exposure to a range of ages. I have not observed her with anyone younger than 10 and feel comfortable saying 10+.
Traits that make your foster special: Denali is the walking definition of a love bug. She just wants alllllll of your attention and love. She will usually plop herself in front of you and put her head in your lap to request some pets. Denali was previously adopted but was returned to GRR. Her owner experienced an unexpected medical emergency and was no longer able to care for her. When she first came to us, she was reserved and nervous. Her tail didn’t move much, and though she sought us out for love, it took her about 10 days to fully relax and show us her whole, silly personality. If you can imagine a happy little hippo, then you surely can envision Denali’s happy wiggle butt waiting to greet you each day! She can be unsure about strangers (aren’t we all ), and may need time to adjust to their presence. Crating her to start or ensuring someone’s confidence upon their arrival is really all she needs. Treats are an easy way to heart Denali can be found playing with the resident dogs, taking a sniffari, or lounging around the house. She’s settled in quite nicely and now that we’ve gotten to know her better, it’s time for her take the next big step and find her forever home. If you’re looking for a companion that will motivate you to get outside then reward yourself with a little Netflix and chill, Denali is your girl.
