My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.

Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.

Are you looking for a cozy snuggle buddy to keep you warm this holiday season? If so, we have the perfect dog for you! JoJo, a 19 pound shih tzu mix is about 11 or 12 years young and came to Senior Dog Haven and Hospice as a rescue from Animal Control. He was covered in fleas that caused some skin problems and needed a dental and neuter, but otherwise was in great shape for an older gentleman!

He had several teeth removed but unfortunately the dental issues were left untreated for so long that his jaw fractured from the decay. The good news is that the injury is healing on its own and needs no additional treatment. He just cannot have any hard bones to chew on and cannot play rough games like tug of war. He can still eat kibble as long as it is very small and currently eats a mixture of dry and fresh food with no issues.

JoJo's skin is almost completely cleared up and he looks and smells great, but he will come with some medicated shampoo to take care of any lingering flakes or itchiness and will need a bath once a week until he is completely healed. He doesn't love his baths but is very tolerant of them.

JoJo has no heart murmur, is not on any oral medications, and has no signs of arthritis, which is quite impressive for a dog his age! He enjoys going for short walks, can jump on and off the furniture with ease, and will insist on being on the couch for snuggles and may want to sleep in bed with you at night. He sleeps all through the night with no problems, often for up to 12 hours at a time. He can do most stairs as long as they are not too narrow.

He is perfectly house trained and is used to going in the backyard a few times a day for potty time. He is generally very well-behaved and not destructive or mischievous.

JoJo gets along perfectly with other dogs, cats, rabbits, and small children. He can be vocal when he wants attention or food, and would do best in a home where there are people around most of the day to love him.

If you have some extra room on your couch and some love to spare and are interested in meeting JoJo, you can submit an application for this sweet, snuggly little guy!
