My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jack was rescued from south Texas and adopted in April 2020.  At some point he was rehomed by his original adopter to a new family but unfortunately  they were  not familiar with the German Shepherd breed and didn't understand him so they returned him to SSR.

Jack has filled out and blossomed into a wonderful dog since he was saved from Texas.  Now, he's healthy and happy!  He loves everyone he meets and will make you laugh everyday.  He can coexist with other dogs (pictured in his profile with a doggy buddy), but he is dog selective. This means he's picky about who he lets in his inner circle. So slow introductions with resident dog(s) will need to happen before Jack can be adopted. After all, we want to make sure his next home is his forever home!

Jack has lived with small children and he adores them!  He loves walks, but especially enjoys snuggling on the couch. He's ready to be your big snuggle buddy.  If you have room in your home and heart to give this guy the love he deserves  please apply today to adopt him.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step to adopt one of our dogs is to complete an adoption application. Once you have submitted your application, a volunteer with call your personal and veterinary references. Following references, SSR will send out a volunteer to conduct a home visit and meet any members of your household. We come to your home and further discuss the adoption process.

The adoption application will let us know a little bit about you, your home, your lifestyle and what you are looking for in a companion. Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to fill out our application to adopt one of our dogs. Your application will either be accepted or denied after the volunteer submits a home visit report.

ADOPTION FEES
There is a non-refundable application fee of $15.
Our adoption fee is $300 for dogs aged 6 and under.
Our adoption fee is $225 for dogs 7 and up.

More about this rescue

Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue is an all-volunteer rescue focused primarily on the rescue of German Shepherds. We are based out of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, but expand our reach and work to save German Shepherds in heavily populated areas throughout the country. While our rescue is a new organization, our volunteers have been rescuing German Shepherds for many years. Our hope is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome every German Shepherd in need.
