Meet Octavia, our sweet and gentle 3.5-year-old Australian Shepherd, a survivor of an HSUS hoarding case. Octavia has mastered crate training and finds comfort in her cozy space when she needs a break. She is also fully housetrained.
Octavia gets along well with her foster's kitty, displaying curiosity yet remaining calm. She enjoys the company of other dogs, especially the mellow labs in her foster home, and communicates her boundaries appropriately. However, she'd also be content as the sole pup in a loving home.
While a bit shy on a leash, Octavia flourishes in a fenced yard, relishing playtime and freedom. Her ideal forever home will have a secure fence, and patient humans willing to invest in positive reinforcement training.
Her gentle and sweet spirit shines through despite initial shyness once she trusts you. She is a very happy dog who, with time, is confident around people and dogs she trusts. She enjoys pets but appreciates folks who respect her cues, allowing her to initiate affection. Octavia, in general, appreciates humans willing to go at her pace.
She has a lovely personality, sweet and kind but playful. We anticipate that after some time in a home where she feels safe, she may become pretty active, as she does love to run and bounce around. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.
