My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chevy!

A wonderful neighbor brought Chevy into their home short term when the previous owner was not taking good care of Chevy and no longer wanted him but we need a forever home! Here is what the neighbor has to say about Chevy! We are doing a courtesy post to help.

“He was immediately happy to join our family. He is a lively, friendly, loving young dog. Chevy is a 3ish year-old fixed male bully mix with a huge smile, and an even bigger heart. He is a loving and affectionate dog who has learned new commands impressively fast and would make the right owner very happy. He loves long walks and hiking.

He is great with kids & adults (male & female)! He is also housebroken & crate trained. He really likes the attention my niece and nephews have given him, he likes to bring them his toys or even his bed when they play with him and he’s gentle.

We have worked with chevy on a reward system to train him on the basics and he is now fluent in the basic commands; sit, stay, down, up (getting into the car), go to bed (go into the crate), shake which comes in handy for nail trims.

Chevy does very well in the car, at the vet, at the groomer, and even at home when we bathe him or trim his nails. We have found that a little peanut butter on the bathtub wall is all the reward he needs to willingly enter the tub and let us wash him.

On walks we us the phrase “watch me” to ensure he knows we are his priority when outside of the house, and we reward him for responding to this command every few responses. Chevy does best on a slip lead that can be placed high on his neck. when we rescued him from his former owners had a thick and extremely tight leather collar around the base of his neck that had caused an injury. This injury healed, but we feel he still struggles with collars and leashes that sit low and near the scar from that collar.

Chevy has been very friendly with our two female dogs, he has done well in the training classes where he’s encountered less behaved dogs, and he adores my nieces and nephews whose ages vary from toddlers to teens.

Chevy is not fond of cats, he freezes and stiffens at the sight of them. And for this reason, we recommend that he is not adopted by cat owners

Chevy is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all vaccines, and is actively on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
