My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Female, 13 years old, 10 lbs

Good with: Dogs
Not tested with: Cats, Kids

House trained: Mostly

Energy level: Moderate (she’s playful and spry for her age!)

Noise level: Medium

Hey there, I'm Daisy – your new four-legged best friend! Despite my age, I'm still as playful and spry as a pup. I absolutely love going for walks, and guess what? I can keep up with the younger dogs with no problem. So, if you're an active soul, I'm your perfect match!

Now, let's talk about my other love – food! I'm a bit of a foodie, and I'll make sure you never forget when it's time to chow down.

I'm what they call a Velcro dog – meaning, I like to stick close to my humans. I'd be over the moon if you're the kind of person who takes me everywhere or works from home. I thrive on companionship, and being by your side is my favorite place to be.

I generally come when called and I do great on a leash, but I could use some additional training when it comes to learning how to sit/stay. Now, I've got to be honest – I'm mostly potty trained, but every now and then, there might be a little accident. I hope you can forgive me for that. We all have our moments, right?

Here's a heads up – I'm not a fan of the car. So, if you're planning any road trips, I might not be the ideal travel buddy. But hey, we can always find other fun things to do together.

In a nutshell, I'm Daisy, a lovable, food-loving, and energetic dog ready to bring joy to your home. If you're on the lookout for a loyal companion for walks and a buddy to keep you company at home, I'm your girl! I can’t wait to find my forever home where I can share all the love I’ve got to give!

My foster guardian says: “ Daisy is very cute and sweet and at times funny and goofy (for example, a few times she has danced around my dog and rubbed herself up against her). She also likes to roll around and rub things like couch cushions. She also likes to scratch and burrow and roll around on towels, sheets, shirts, small rugs, etc that are on the floor.”

Likes: Burrowing, rawhide sticks, hanging with you!

Dislikes: Cars; when my people leave!

My ideal home: I’d love a home where I can be treated like a queen to live out my golden years. I'd do best in a home without children, or older children that can respect my space.

Additional adoption info

Adoption area is Washington, D.C area, including Northern Virginia and Maryland. All adoptions require a completed adoption application. Our adoption coordinators will contact you soon after reviewing the application. Our adoption fee is $450 to help off set the costs of rescuing dogs in need. All dogs go to their new homes spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots, wormed (although a 2nd worming may be required), started on heart worm and flea and tick preventative and sometimes microchipped.

Although we try to be as accurate as possible, Rural Dog Rescue cannot guarantee the breed or full-grown adult size of any of the dogs or puppies in its care. Because many of these dogs were found as strays or are the result of irresponsible, unplanned breeding, we do not know the dog's exact background and can only list breed and size by our best educated guess. If exact breed and size are important to you, please consider adopting a dog from a specific breed rescue. We want our dogs to be adopted by people who will love and care for them forever for who they are - no matter what breed and size they turn out to be!

More about this rescue

Rural Dog Rescue is a non-profit organization whose mission is to save the lives of dogs and cats in high-kill shelters in rural areas with euthanasia rates of 80% or higher.

Mission Statement: Forever true to The Underdog, Rural Dog Rescue is dedicated to saving the lives of dogs in shelters who are often overlooked for adoption or rescue. We save the dogs who are at most risk of being euthanized: the hounds, the black dogs, the seniors, the sick and the broken. We make a commitment to reserve a minimum of 50% of the dogs we save to The Underdog. Root For The Underdog!

Rural Dog Rescue's home base is in Washington, DC. We support several high kill shelters that euthanize in 72 hours and whose kill rate is 70% or higher in rural areas of Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina. Rural Dog Rescue also helps dogs in need in Washington, DC and Maryland.

We are 100% volunteer and foster based and no salaries are paid. 100% of your donation and adoption fee goes to helping the dogs and cats of Rural Dog Rescue.
