Young Vernon, an adorable dachsund chihuahua mix, is about 6 months, a total sweetheart and full of energy. He’s smart and eager to learn, and loves getting belly rubs and pets. He is friendly to strangers and just fine with being picked up and cuddled or playing in the yard or indoors. His ears are even cuter in person, if you can believe it. This little guy would be an excellent pet for anyone who loves a small dog with a BIG personality. We estimate his full grown weight at about 12 lbs, he is currently 7 lbs. Vernon found himself at a shelter in Central California, possibly hit by a car, and was determined by vets to require crate rest, and he is just about completely healed.
He is in an amazing foster and doing well - happy and of course dashingly handsome - as he is told every day. He is living with a cat and is doing well with that relationship! He is very treat motivated so very eager to please and train.
Vernon is a sweetie, and his ideal home will be one where his people are familiar with young dogs and have the patience and time to help him on his journey to being a wonderful respectful adult dog. He is working on house training and he is scheduled for neuter the last week of December. Vernon LOVES other dogs all sizes, and would do very well in a home with another playful dog, or as the only dog who can get lots of interaction with his people. He gets very very excited when he sees something that looks like a lot of fun (i.e. another dog, a friendly person, fun fun fun!!!). He is ready to find his perfect forever home.
Please note that we are currently set up to adopt within the Los Angeles county area.

All of our amazing dogs are fully vetted, fixed, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption. They are then fostered by one of our experienced foster volunteers, who are able to assess temperament and personality and begin any necessary training. An adoption application, adoption fee, and home check are required for adoption.
Not 100% certain whether you're ready to commit to pet ownership? Consider fostering one of our amazing dogs. It is a crucial piece of the rescue process, and you can play a huge part in saving a dog's life, all the while deciding if that dog, or any dog, is the right fit for your lifestyle! If you know you can't be a forever owner but want to help out and get a little puppy love in return, this may be just the thing for you!
All supplies, food and veterinary care are provided to the foster by the rescue. No costs involved to you - just provide a safe and loving environment and we will do the rest! Fostering can be as short- or long-term as you would like, and we can place dogs with you that are conducive to your lifestyle and preferences (small, large, hypoallergenic, etc.)
