My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gourami is a skittish and shy boy looking for a calm, patient and low commotion home. He will have a hard time settling into a new environment and will need time to get comfortable. Gourami came from a home environment where he had little to no contact with people for the majority of his life. Due to this he is still uneasy and nervous around people and can be defensive when pushed out of his comfort zone. Despite this he has been doing very well while being socialized from staff. He is a very food motivated boy and treats are the way to his heart! Using treats works really well to get him comfortable with someone and encourages him to open up. Once he's comfortable with someone he does seem to enjoy gentle petting on his neck and will roll around and show a goofy side. He does occasionally still get overwhelmed with petting that is too long or too vigorous. When he's getting overwhelmed he displays body language to alert to that, so a home with experience with cats is recommended. It will take some time to build a bond with him but he does open up and enjoy company with time and patience. Gourami is currently housed with two other cats from the same situation. He would enjoy being adopted with the cat "Bass" as they do lay together and spend time together often. Gourami is looking for a home with no children or dogs.

Bass and Gourami have a reduced adoption fee of $80 as a pair.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require potential adopters to fill out an pre-adoption application. If that application is approved, the dog/cat must be spayed/neutered before it leaves our shelter (if not already done). If it is a puppy under 4 months old, we allow it to go home with the adopters under a foster care agreement until it is old enough to be returned for spay/neuter. Kittens are allowed to leave before spay/neuter is done, but they must be done within a certain time frame.
Fees: Dogs/puppies range from $150-300, depending on if they came in already spayed/neutered or if we paid to have that done.
Cats range from $80 - $140, though we often have deals on older cats or cats that have been there a long time.
Kittens are $60 with $25 refunded once it has been spayed/neutered.
All adoptions include at least the first vaccination, deworming, de-fleaing, microchip ID, and 6 weeks of pet insurance.
