My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This smart pup is Dobby and he is always ready for adventure. He is a graduate from the Leash on Life Prison Pup Training Program which means he passed requirements for socialization and the Canine Good Citizen training which includes coming when called and walking on a loose lead. Dobby enjoys training and his handler has taught him to High 5 with both paws. Dobby likes lots of mental stimulation and is friendly with strangers. He also likes to go on walks and enjoys being able to sniff. His handler describes him as obedient, very energetic, intelligent, loving, and loyal. Dobby needs a fenced in yard to give him space to run and keep him safely at home. He does well with the other dogs at the prison and would probably be fine around older kids but would not be good around cats. He is housetrained from being in the prison and is used to plenty of exercise. Dobby is likely a Plott Hound mix and is neutered, up to date on shots, microchipped, and healthy. He weighs 70 lbs and is full grown with a birth date of 12/31/17. Dobby is looking for a forever buddy that would reinforce his training and enjoys the outdoors.

Additional adoption info

The animals in our care urgently need a permanent home where someone can provide individual loving care and attention. Please consider adopting your family pet from the Humane Society of McCormick County. We require that you sign an adoption agreement wherein you commit to take proper care of the pet. More about this shelter

The Humane Society of McCormick County is a private, non-profit, no-kill organization formed in September 2000. We are staffed entirely by volunteers and we operate the only shelter in the county. Our rural county is a very poor county in South Carolina.

McCormick County does not allocate any money for a county or city shelter and we do not have any veterinarians in our county.

We are all our county has for any help with animals.

We approach this problem through our "No more litters... fix your critters" low cost spay/neuter program. We altered a total of 272 dogs and cats in 2020! (95 McCormick County owned dogs and cats free of charge to those who qualified for it, 119 HSMC rescues, and 58 trap-neuter/spay-return-monitor.)
