My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is Bailee and I am a spayed six year old Boxer mix. Now, I’ve been through some major changes in the last six months but totally think I’m in good hands and ready to move into my last loving forever home.

Let’s start from the beginning, I’m talking about six years ago when I was just a cute lil pup that named Truffles after I arrived at the shelter.

It has now been over 150 days since I was literally dumped outside the shelter around the Thanksgiving holiday! Can you imagine my reaction? I was scared about my new surroundings, cold since I had nothing to keep warm from, worried about where my next meal was coming and there was no way I was gonna ask for help. Well, a few of the staff saw me running between the river bridge and shelter around Thanksgiving and welp, since I was skidding and scared, they set out a large live animal trap looking thing and even put some good smelling food in it! Now, I know from my experiences, this didn’t seem normal but, of course I fell for it. Walked right in to gobble that food up because I was starving and then I heard a crash! Scared the crap outta me so much I tried to get out but couldn’t. The door shut. Thank god I didn’t have to be in that thing very long cause one of the staff showed up and drug that trap inside the shelter where it was warm.

Now, I was very scared and grumpy, didn’t want anyone to touch me, I’d bark and snarl at them. Took me a while to warm up, but one staff believed in me so much, they always took me out of my kennel and spent time with me a lot…..

This is what helped me realize that not everybody was bad. Some of the staff here were confused about why I was acting the way I was, but I didn’t know any other way to tell them I was uncomfortable. Slowly the staff here learned that I was a super sweet girl I was just given the worst circumstances. Now, basically everyone loves me, and I love them!

I recently got to go into foster care, and this is what my foster mom has to say about me. She says that I am a super smart girl, I caught onto house training right away, I only had one accident! I know how to sit and shake, with both paws, and I am learning new tricks every day. She says that I walk well on a leash but could use some improvement, I disagree. I do well with cats and other dogs but it does take me a little bit to get used to other dogs. I get a little shy with new people but I warm up quickly once I realize I'm not in danger. I LOVE food, I will do anything for food, you never have to worry about scraps on the floor because I will clean up for you! I enjoy taking naps anywhere that I can, my favorite spot right now is on the couch. To sum up what she said, I am an amazing girl and would love to meet you and maybe go home with you! Please call the shelter at (620)792-4297 to set up a meet and greet with me!

Thank you for taking time to view our pets and hope we have the perfect match for you.

Additional adoption info

We work to make sure the pet interacts with potential adopters and not allow the look of animal be the deciding factor for the adopter. There has to be an interest in both animal and adopter, making sure the pet will fit the family and lifestyle.
