My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This handsome boy is Velvet. He is a 5-Month-old terrier mix who will be medium sized(40-50lbs) full grown. The cards were stacked against him from the beginning, but he is a survivor. He and his siblings were dropped off at the shelter in St Thomas when they were about 2 days old. They were bottle fed by the amazing volunteers and made their way to Pet Search. Once in foster care with Pet Search, his foster mom noticed that he was having a lot of " reflux and vomiting". Off to the vet he went, a swallowing test was done, and it was suspected he had Mega esophagus. To confirm the diagnosis an appointment was made at Ohio state veterinary hospital. On February 13th, it was confirmed that he indeed has mega esophagus, a disease which is treatable by dietary adjustments using elevated feedings and eventually a baily chair. He was also started on an oral medication which seems to be helping. Because of abnormal bloodwork during the visit an abdominal ultrasound was performed. His foster mom received the devastating news that he had juvenile kidney disease which there is no real treatment at this point. Despite these conditions, Velvet is a happy playful dog who loves life. It is anticipated that his life expectancy will not be as long as his sibling, so we are looking for a forever foster for this awesome boy. Pet Search will support Velvet under our Veterinarians for his lifetime. He loves his foster home but deserves a family of his very own. Can you be his family?

More about this rescue

Pet Search is an all-volunteer, non-euthanizing rescue and placement service that has been in Washington County since 1985. Pet Search's philosophy is that all pets deserve a second chance for a hoe and love. Pet Search has chosen not to use a shelter-type environment with kennels and cages, but perfers to "home shelter" animals with volunteers in private homes. Pet Search is a privately funded organization, relying on the generousity of fellow animal lovers.
Pet Search provides the following programs:
* Animal Rescue and Placement/ Adoptions
* Fundraising
* Homeless and Feral Cat Trapping (aluminum recycling is used to fund this program)
* Humane Education
* Pet Therapy
* Rabies Plus Clinic- Low Cost inoculations (three times a year)
* Community Service Opportunities for students
* Other Public service programs, such as the Blessing of the Animals in October
FOSTER HOMES AND VOLUNTEERS ALWAYS WELCOME!!!
