My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************

Yogi, 6 years old, neutered male, mastiff and pit bull mix, 63 pounds. He is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport to an approved adopter. Please note, he is physically located in the State of Texas.

We want to start with Yogi's ~VERY minimal~ health maintenance. We had him meet with a specialist regarding his eye. He has "dry eye" in his right eye, which requires daily eye drops. There is a possibility this will resolve in time, but we anticipate him needing these drops for his lifetime. It does not deter him from daily life in any way. We would be happy to chat more with an applicant.

Yogi was originally named "Porcel" by the shelter but once our foster recognized his "yo yo" nature, we quickly came to the realization that Yogi was a much better fit.

Yogi is extremely dog friendly - big, small, old or young, he gets along with them all. He has consistently worked on his manners during doggy daycare and in various temporary foster care. He is extremely deferential, play bowing and chasing practically anything that you toss. He does best with another dog who likes to engage in playful activity. He is curious about other dogs when on leash but does not bark or pull towards them.

Yogi has met kids around 8 years and older. He is generally uninterested in new people (kids included) unless they want to play with him. This looks like playing catch, throwing or kicking a ball etc. We will note he is very intent when there is a ball involved so would recommend a home with kids who can be mindful of his focus when a ball is involved but want to be clear: he is never - ever - overbearing or forceful when a ball is within view. He loves pets from strangers, men, women and children, but is fixated when a ball is around. Generally we recommend homes with kids over 10yr or those who can and will understand animal behavior cues. Even given his exuberance to play, Yogi gives the impression he can be safely around young children without incident.

We have no history with cats. He has stayed with a temp foster who has an outside cat, and shown no reaction although we would definitely recommend slow - if necessary - interactions.

Yogi walks really well on leash. He has a loose leash, walks in a straight line and does not pull. He is fully housebroken. He does well when crated and prefers to have his chew toys crated with him. He is generally quiet when crated.

As mentioned, Yogi LOVES his balls and toys, etc. We have found he may resource guard those items around other dogs but he is in no way aggressive, just possessive and protective. He is responsive when redirected but it is important to note if other dogs in the home. That said, because of the high value the toy provides, Yogi is easy to train without "wasting" calories.

Yogi is an energetic dog and is looking for a moderately active home - he does not need long walks at all, he will be fully satiated with the time spent playing fetch as long as you wish to throw the ball. He does fully enjoy his daily walks so if this is your preferred exercise, he is more than happy to oblige. Yogi is goofy, curious and loveable, and makes friends with anyone he encounters. He enjoys water and mud, and always has some kind of a silly look on his face.

*Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
