My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Nacho, the wise 9-year-old Coonhound with a touching back story. This devoted senior pup was going about his routine when tragedy struck—his owner passed away at home. With no one around to lend a hand, Nacho faced several anxious hours with no response. Showing incredible courage, he took matters into his own paws. Breaking through a ground floor window, Nacho was on a mission to seek help.

Discovered running freely, the police, guided by the info on his tags, returned him to his address, only to uncover the heartbreaking truth about his late owner. Nacho found himself at a local NJ shelter, searching for a new loving home, but NorthStar Pet Rescue stepped in to pull him to safety. They are helping Nacho feel safe and loved again and will be looking for a wonderful forever home for this boy.

Here's what we have learned about Nacho. He is an extremely gentle soul and is already neutered. He currently weighs 65 pounds. He does not like other dogs in his face and although he was in foster with other dogs, he would prefer a home where he is the only dog. He is only reactive when other dogs are in his face.
Nacho is VERY potty trained as he would wait in his run at the shelter until he was taken out to do his business. He has had a full blood panel and an aspiration of the mass on his hind foot, both came out as unremarkable!

If you'd like to be part of Nacho's new life, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and ask for him by name, NACHO NJ! This boy has been through so much and we are hoping he will be back in a loving home very soon!

More about this rescue

In many areas of the country, especially in the South, the situation for animals is desperate: Chained outside and starving, homeless and running loose, or just simply no longer wanted and abandoned in an overburdened and underfunded facility that can’t possibly take another. For these animals, there is not much hope…except to look in the night sky for the North Star, their only way out. We are a group of passionate volunteers committed to saving these innocent dogs and finding them a new forever home. NorthStar Pet Rescue was founded in 2017, and although we might be a relatively new name among New Jersey animal rescues, you may recognize some of us from the work we’ve done volunteering with other rescues to help animals over the past decade. We are 100% dedicated to operating in an safe, transparent, and ethical manner and to ensuring the best veterinary practices are followed with regards to the care and transport of our animals. NorthStar Pet Rescue is IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN: 81-5348036).
