My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

They just don't come any more yummy than this little boy! Jojo, our sweet, friendly 10-month-old AmStaff Terrier, has gone through so much already in his short life, but we are happy to say that it's smooth sailing from here. When Jojo first came to us, he was severely emaciated and frail, barely able to stand and extremely shy and scared. He was so thin that you could count every rib in his back--even though he was nearly 8 months old, he was the size of a 4-month old puppy. When the call came in from the city shelter, we were surprised. They rarely ask us to take a specific dog, but they were begging us to take Jojo. When we first met him, we saw this beautiful gentle AmStaff puppy who weighed so little that it was a miracle he was even alive. At first he could barely walk; he would take a few steps and his kness would buckle from weakness and hunger. The shelter knew he had to get out quickly if he were to survive. When we brought him in, we carried him from the van. Even though he was scared, he was kissing his foster mom's arm as she held him. She put him down and watched him stumble, then guided him to his comfy crate where a warm plate of food was waiting for him. He ate so fast and begged for more. Within the next 24 hours he was given 6 more small meals...each time he ate he gave his foster mom kisses of gratitude. By morning, his walking became more steady and his legs were no longer collapsing. Because he had several small wounds on his head and body, Jojo was immediately put on antibiotics to help them heal. Despite his ordeal, his first vet visit revealed that he was severly underweight, but otherwise healthy. In the past couple of weeks, Jojo has grown so strong that he will be neutered in a couple of days. He plays non-stop with his canine foster friends and is great with other dogs, but we think he would be great as an only dog because he loves to be the center of attention. He is housebroken and can be left home alone...just don't leave any food out on the kitchen counters....he's turning into quite the butterball! In the short time we've had him, Jojo's frame is filling out wonderfully and his once dull brindle coat is beginning to shine. Jojo has also really come out of his shell--his confidence is beginning to return and his happy, friendly, affectionate personality is emerging. He weighed about 25 pounds when he first came to us, he weighs about 33 pounds now, and we expect him to weigh about 40 pounds when he's finished growing. Because he was emaciated so early in his life, Jojo will probably always be small for his age. Because of this, he will probably look forever young. He has adorable perky ears that flop forward, a sweet face with gentle eyes, and a constantly-wagging tail. Jojo is a sweet, loving boy who has had some hard, hard times. He needs a home where he will be loved and treasured forever and never taken for granted. He adores people and is so ready to bond. All he wants is for someone to cuddle with and someone who will be his best friend. If you think you might be the lucky one, please call Beth at 212-496-1053.
