My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nonie was found as a TX stray with her litter of 7 puppies.  All of her puppies have been adopted.  Nonie is still searching high and low for her forever home.  She has been with her VA foster family since May 2023.  Nonie is wondering why no one wants her.....  This sweet, gentle gal is 2-3 years old, around 65 lbs, and has the best smile ever! She is pretty close to perfect! Seriously. If you want a low-maintenance best friend, this girl is for you. Nonie is crate-trained, potty-trained, spayed, healthy, and heartworm negative! She aims to please and is easily corrected.

Nonie is kid-friendly, and so sweet and cuddly.  She is not cat-friendly and does not care for small dogs.     Nonie loves playing with her dog friends, going for  walks, watching the squirrels and snuggling with her hoomans. She is very food-motivated and takes treats very gently.

She would be perfectly fine as an only dog or in a home with another pup - preferably younger. Nonie is very patient and playful with the 1-year-old resident pup, and they really enjoy wrestling and chasing each other.

All Nonie needs to be happy is a full belly, squirrels to watch, a soft bed/couch, a few walks per day, and snuggles. She enjoys being outside and would love a yard, but it's not required.

Keep in mind, she is a sloppy drinker.... towels are required!

Nonie says: 'Please take a chance on me!!'

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step to adopt one of our dogs is to complete an adoption application. Once you have submitted your application, a volunteer with call your personal and veterinary references. Following references, SSR will send out a volunteer to conduct a home visit and meet any members of your household. We come to your home and further discuss the adoption process.

The adoption application will let us know a little bit about you, your home, your lifestyle and what you are looking for in a companion. Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to fill out our application to adopt one of our dogs. Your application will either be accepted or denied after the volunteer submits a home visit report.

ADOPTION FEES
There is a non-refundable application fee of $15.
Our adoption fee is $300 for dogs aged 6 and under.
Our adoption fee is $225 for dogs 7 and up.

More about this rescue

Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue is an all-volunteer rescue focused primarily on the rescue of German Shepherds. We are based out of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, but expand our reach and work to save German Shepherds in heavily populated areas throughout the country. While our rescue is a new organization, our volunteers have been rescuing German Shepherds for many years. Our hope is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome every German Shepherd in need.
