Laila is the total package! She is very easy on the leash, and will take her time to soak up all the smells and sniffs along the way. Other perks of adopting Laila are that she is already housetrained, can sit on command for treats, and is laid back. Her calm and gentle demeanor is appreciated by staff because she is patient when getting geared up, and could certainly make a great work from home buddy for you because she can entertain herself. At the same time, she appreciates and loves human connections and will be sure to shower you with affection.

Laila enjoys playing with other dogs here at the shelter, so she might make the perfect sister to your resident dog. To ensure compatibility, we will host a doggy meet up at AAC. Laila is a love bug, who is frequently overlooked. Her adorable boxer face, playfulness, and laid back temperament is going to make a lucky family very happy.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
