My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

'm a Malamute rescuer, but I'm asking for help for a non Malamute. In fact, she's not even a Northern breed, but she is a special dog. Two days ago I got an email from a friend in Bay City, Texas, announcing that the local shelter was preparing for Hurricane Alex and planned to euthanize every animal in the shelter because they had no one to check on the animals or evacuate them if the storm struck. Folks who wanted to help had until 5:00pm to get the dogs to temporary safety and they were to be returned after the storm threat was over. This seemed insane to me since the storm would probably strike quite a distance away from this community. I offered to help find temporary housing for one dog. I was told that one dog at the shelter was facing euthanasia because she was a generic black dog and therefore unlikely to be adopted. She was the only one at that point who had nowhere to go for temporary safety.

This dog is young and healthy and, through a friend, I got her an emergency and very temporary foster home.

Her foster mom, who was once a dog trainer, says that this is a really nice young dog, who was not aggressive towards her small dog (Chihuahua) or her cat and did well with her teenage son. The dog seemed eager to please, and is probably house broken.

Two days ago this dog was Nameless. Today she is Jessie, and her manner has gone from hangdog to hopeful. If she has to go back to the shelter in a few days, she will again face death. Please help me get the word out that Jessie would make an excellent pet if she just gets a chance. Check out the slide show of her at:

If you can help Jessie, she and I will be very grateful.

Jessie is immunized. I will have her spayed or fund her spay at a low cost s/n clinic. I am having her heartworm tested and will fund soft treatment if she is positive. I so wish I could do more, but I am at my max with a kennel full of Malamutes.. Still, this dog does NOT deserve to die (I know, I know...there are literally tons of dogs just like Jessie, but I've looked into her eyes and seen hope and I can't turn away.) Anyway, take a look if you will and spread the word. I can deliver her within reason - I guess that means within Texas.

Thanks.
