My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Nathan!! Nathan and Dan came into the shelter together. They were both strays and have just waited to find forever homes. Well that has not happened for either dog, because they are just a plain black dog.

Nathan is a lover and active young boy. He will make an active family very happy. Nathan enjoys running around the playground with the other dogs. He gets so excited to be out and about. Nathan will make a fantastic hiking partner and will enjoy exploring the world with you. Nathan loves to jump up on you and give hugs. We been working with him on this, but he will need some basic obedience classes as he is still young to learn his basic commands and manners. Nathan loves to stay right by your side, so we know he will do great in classes. He is a smart cookie. We recommend a fenced yard for Nathan, so he can run around and burn his energy off on days you can't go for long hikes or walks.

Nathan is a loving boy who is just a plain typical black dog. We saw more in him than just that. We want to find him his forever family, where he will have fun and be able to go on lots of exploring with you. Apply for Nathan today!! He is ready to take on the world with you.

Unless otherwise indicated, all dogs adopted through Fetching Hearts have received the following before being available for adoption:

Thorough veterinary examination

All routine annual vaccinations, including Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella (Kennel Cough), Heartworm Test, Fecal Test, Deworming, Microchip, Flea and Tick Prevention and Heartworm Prevention.

Spay/Neuter
All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease.

VETTING NOTE: Fetching Hearts Rescue completely vets our dogs thoroughly to the best of our knowledge based on communication with our Southern Vets. If anything is brought to our attention, we treat the dog. After adopting the dog, you will be responsible for following up with all vetting going forward.

HEARTWORM NOTE: Dogs who were treated for Heartworm can test positive up to 4-6 months after last treatment. All dogs are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin following the treatment to kill the Heartworm larvae. All dogs should be re-tested after 5-6 months from the last Heartworm treatment.

More about this rescue

Fetching Hearts Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)(3), volunteer run rescue that is dedicated to saving dogs who have been abused, neglected or abandoned and finding loving, caring homes for them.

We rely on a network of foster families so that each dog that we pull into the safety of our rescue is placed in a foster home and is no longer confined to a life in a kennel.

We are committed to helping dogs of all ages, breeds and sizes by partnering with shelters and animal control services right here in Connecticut as well as with several high kill shelters in the South.

We do a full assessment of each dog's temperament and health to ensure that we are able to find the most suitable home for them. Every dog is fully vetted - meaning they are up to date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, heartworm negative and micro chipped - before being adopted.

The ASPCA estimates that approximately 3.3 million dogs in the United States enter shelters each year, of which approximately 670,000 are euthanized*. Our goal is to advocate for and provide education about the need for spaying and neutering to eliminate what has become an epidemic of unwanted dogs.*
