My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Benny is a very special and loving boy! He loves playing with other dogs but would do best in a home as the only dog; he loves attention and affection from his people! The best snuggler in the world (not hyperbole), Benny would love nothing more than to curl up with you on the couch with a good book or movie.
Benny is incredible in the home; he is attentive, eager to please and learn, and he loves to train. He would do best in a home with a large, fenced-in yard (ideally some land and woods!) and no kids, cats, or other dogs.
Benny currently lives in a home with other dogs, and has his whole life, but we are not convinced it's where he truly thrives. We rescued him from a kill shelter in Texas when he was 1, and he is definitely a nervous boy. Benny resource guards (mostly from other dogs, and when he does with humans, it is very easy to get him to 'trade' for something higher value), and his new people will ideally have some experience managing this/modifying this behavior. We are here to help though, and have many fantastic resources for you should you need them!
To be completely transparent: Benny's resource guarding has been evolving. We have done lots of work to help him in this area, and he really has come so far, but ultimately he will not be a safe dog to bring babies home to, and he is not always safe with his existing canine brothers. That being said, Benny would love nothing more than lots of canine friends to play with! He loves a good doggy playdate, and loves dogs in general, but the guarding is challenging to manage and is too risky when it comes to co-existing in the home with other dogs.
He is slow to warm when meeting new people, but once he gets to knows them, he catches on and has made a lifelong friend. He loves when his human friends visit him, and he doesn't bark at them or display any nervousness, just welcomes them enthusiastically and begs for pets!
Benny loves to sniff and hunt, loves puzzle games, loves to shred cardboard, and snuggle. He is also very adaptable to your routine. You want to sleep in one day? Not a problem, Benny's got that covered. Having a lazy couch day? He's all about it.
As I mentioned, we love Benny deeply, he is a kind, big-hearted, affectionate, loving, sweet, smart boy.
Whoever gets to love Benny the rest of his life is the luckiest person. We'll be loving him just as much, from afar.

More about this rescue

Canine Cupids' mission is to protect and improve the lives of homeless, neglected, and exceptional needs dogs and to place them in permanent, loving homes.

Canine Cupids is a Certified 501c3 Organization
DATCPLicense: 288601-DS

Canine Cupids work with animals, within our community and throughout our organization is guided by three core values: compassion, integrity and dedication.

Because every animal deserves to be loved, we feel it is our moral responsibility to protect and improve the lives of abused, abandoned, and homeless dogs, and to place them in loving permanent homes.

We strive to work with animal control agencies as well as other rescues and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets within our community.

At Canine Cupids our founding principle is that "ALL dogs are individuals and deserve to be regarded as such". This mindset is core to the belief system at The Animal Farm Foundation. It assists in securing equal treatment and opportunity for "pit bull" dogs - as well as all dogs, regardless of size, color, etc.

"We owe it to all dogs to see them for who they really are, free of prejudice, stereotypes, and assumptions that are based on a known pedigree, a breed label guess, physical appearance, or their past history."*

"Breed related traits are not guaranteed. If a dog does conform to breed traits that does not mean a dog isn't an individual! Breed characteristics may contribute to a dog?s individuality, but they are not the whole story." *

Don't judge a book by its cover and don't judge a pooch by its stereotype!
