Paws

Hello, my name is Winnifred! Not only am I a stunning, confident young adult female Pit Bull but foster mom says that I’m the sweetest wild child ever! It’s true too…I may be deaf but I’m a funny, rambunctious girl who loves to have fun and shower my people with endless love!!

At home, my favorite activities include wrestling & romping with my fur sibs, gazing out the window watching (and saying hello to) the passersby, jumping from one piece of furniture to another (hee, hee), and taking short naps in my favorite chair. What about Kongs you ask?? Well, I’m a Kong fanatic of course, and I will spend lots of time making sure it’s completely clean before moving on to my next adventure. Oh yeah, and if you really want to make me smile just bring out the toys…I’m not picky! Hee, hee!! I’m cautious in new environments but I warm up quickly and when I’m away from home, I’m quite the showstopper if I do say so myself! I love greeting new people and they love greeting me just as much! Sure, I’m still working on my ‘adulting’ in this area, but with patience and more training I will be a great 'bring anywhere' companion. Hint, hint!!

I am good with kids, but I have a high prey drive so cats are not a good fit for me. Additionally, although I’m good with other dogs, I have a LOT of energy and can play a bit rough so smaller dogs may also not be a good fit. Potty training on a schedule is going nicely; I do fine on the leash; and I’m crate trained. I do, however, get a bit anxious in the crate if my people need to leave so foster mom makes sure I have a Kong then she covers the kennel before she leaves. I’m a smart lady who knows commands like “sit”, “come”, and “kennel/crate” but since I’m unable to hear anything, I need my people to use special training techniques to help me learn. Please don't let my inability to hear scare you…deaf dogs are just like any other dog when it comes to learning new tricks & routines. In fact, I am currently learning hand signals for basic commands and not only am I slowly but surely catching on, but foster mom gives me LOTS of ‘thumbs-ups’ to let me know that I am the best girl EVER!

Anyway, I am a brave, curious, absolute sweetheart who is simply looking for YOU…a very patient, unconditionally loving fur-ever family that will NEVER give up on me. As much as I enjoy playing, I love taking my much-needed naps afterward so get ready for your weighted-blanket-snore-machine because this gal’s got it going on and I will love you bigger than life! ALL my love, Winnifred

*Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.

Additional adoption info

Step one is making sure you read through all of the information provided at https://underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/ and on our FAQ’s page before applying.

Step two begins after your application has been submitted. Our coordinators will review your application to ensure that you and the pet you are applying for is a good match. The application is where you get to tell us about yourself! Please answer the questions thoroughly. We look at all of the details and then weigh those details with what we know the dogs need. For example, many of our dogs come from commercial breeding facilities. Some of those dogs have a little trouble adjusting to life in a new home, so they require another dog to teach them “how to be a dog”. Not all of our dogs have this need, but some do, and that’s something we will take into consideration.

You will receive a response from us, via email, within 1-3 business days.

*Please note, puppy applications require one week review time and payment of the application fee.

If you are considering adopting one of our pets, keep in mind that we have several policies regarding placement.

We only adopt to homes within 60 miles of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Only on a case by case basis do we place female dogs in homes with current female dogs.
We will not place our pets in homes with unaltered animals.
We have a strict NO DECLAW policy, where adopters must agree to never declaw adopted cats. For more information on declawing and its alternatives, please visit www.declawing.com
We have a lifetime commitment to our animals, all adopters must agree to return their pets to us if placement is not deemed successful.
We strongly encourage continued socialization and formal obedience training for all dogs under the age of eight.
If you have children younger than 5 years, and do not already have a canine in your home, understand that adding a dog or cat will be like adding a permanent 2 year old to your responsibilities. For this reason, we will only place our pets in homes with children younger than 5 on a case-by-case basis. Keep in mind that completing an adoption contract means you understand that all adoption fees are non-refundable.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Our dogs are available to meet at our adoption events. As fosters RSVP to events, we will update the dog’s profile to reflect those events. However, sometimes “life happens” and fosters are unable to make it, or unable to RSVP ahead of time. We recommend attending events and meeting our pets to find the right one to match your home and lifestyle.

If you are serious about an individual pet on our website, please read about our Adoption Process, and complete an application. Upon approval, a private meet and greet may be scheduled.

We do not schedule private meetings until you have applied and been approved to meet the individual pet.
