Dewey is a silly, funny, affectionate, one of a kind doggo. We believe Dewey has congenital cerebellar hypoplasia, which essentially means that his brain doesn’t function quite like other dogs. He has an odd gait, like all 4 legs function somewhat independently. This is exaggerated when he runs and a new born giraffe trying to walk.
Dewey has no idea he’s different and he is the happiest dog you’ll ever find! We do not believe that Dewey’s condition is progressive. Who he is today is who he is gonna be :).
Dewey loves all people and dogs. His condition makes it hard for him to read other dogs or understand what a snarl or little growl might mean, so some dogs find him to be too much. He also has a play growl that sounds vicious and he plays rough, but Dewey doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He will need a patient dog friend.
His humans will need to understand that he doesn’t learn the same as most dogs. He’s about 90% potty trained but might never get to 100%. He doesn’t respond well to verbal corrections. He needs to be shown very clearly what humans expect of him.
Dewey is definitely more work than the average dog but he is so very worth it. You will not meet a happier, better natured dog anywhere!

Additional adoption info
If we all agree that a current Sketchy Mutt might be a good fit, we will bring him to your home and introduce him to your dogs, cats, and human family members. If all goes well and everyone (including your animals) is in agreement, you will start a one-week (minimum) trial adoption. We want you to live day in, day out with the dog to see what it would really be like to bring him into your family. If at any point during the trial adoption you decide its not a good match, the dog goes back to his foster home.

Sketchy Mutts and Underdogs is a 501c3 non-profit, all-volunteer organization, located in the Indianapolis metro area. We are dedicated to saving the lives of dogs who are at high risk of euthanasia in area shelters, due to behavioral issues, medical conditions, or overcrowding. We are primarily a foster-based organization, although we have the ability to temporarily house dogs in our facility until foster or forever homes can be found.
