My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rex is a Lab/Pitbull mix, born 8/20/2020.  He was surrendered due to owners moving to a neighborhood where fences were not permitted.  Rex did not adjust to not having a fenced yard, and became very stressed at seeing other dogs "in his space."  Rex was involved in a dog fight with another dog, whereupon the owners surrendered Rex to Muddy Paws to help rehome him.  The prior owners love him very much and have started working with a Muddy Paws trainer to help correct his dog reactivity to get him better prepared to be adopted.  Rex's adopter will receive continued support from a trainer if desired.  Rex does requires a 6 ft privacy fence and needs to be the only dog in the home.

Rex's prior owners describe him as a wonderful dog!  He loves kids and is pretty near perfect in every way except he just isn't a fan of other dogs.  However, he did live with one in his last home harmoniously.  But strange dogs do bring out the anxiety in him.

Before applying to adopt this dog, you need to be familiar with your local breed-specific legislation regarding Pit Bulls.

The suggested adoption donation for Rex is $315.   We are a 501c3 organization which means that your donation may be TAX DEDUCTIBLE.  Your donation goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our animals in rescue, as well as providing supportive services to animals in homes.

Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION.  Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the dog’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match.  If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the pet.  The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver.

Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter.  We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs.  If you and the dog are not a good match, we will help you select another dog, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.

More about this rescue

Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue, Inc. is a not for profit organization formed in 2014 by a small group of devoted animal lovers, in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area, with many years of rescue experience wanting to make a difference in the lives of dogs. Our rescue focuses on small breed dogs, less than 35 pounds, of any age. It is all volunteer based, and all of our rescue dogs are living in the homes of our volunteers.
Our rescue is unique in that we offer supportive services, such as education and training, to owners considering relinquishing their pet in an effort to try to keep the dog in their home whenever possible. We also educate and offer placement assistance to owners attempting to rehome their pets through social media sites, which can often be risky for the pets as well as the owners.
