My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kody, the one-year-old husky, is ready to steal your heart and embark on his greatest adventure yet: finding his forever home! Rescued as a stray, his past may be a mystery, but his vibrant personality speaks volumes about his resilient spirit. With an ever-present smile and an infectious enthusiasm for life, Kody's happiness is simply irresistible. This affectionate fur-factory adores people and will shower you with boundless love and affection from the moment you meet. His peppy and bubbly nature ensures that there will never be a dull moment with Kody around. He's a social butterfly and plays well with other dogs, making him the perfect companion for playdates and canine adventures. Kody's intelligence shines through, as he already knows some basic commands. With a little patience and consistency, he'll surely impress you with his eagerness to learn more. However, it's essential to keep in mind that, like all Huskies, Kody has a tendency to wander off. To ensure his safety, a secure environment and a watchful eye during outdoor activities will be essential. He sure is a handsome guy, but please please please do your research on the breed- just about any husky owner will tell you that they aren't for the faint of heart!

If you're ready to embrace the joy and excitement that Kody brings to every moment, he'll reward you with unwavering loyalty and an endless supply of cuddles. Welcome this lovable wanderlust husky into your home and hearts, and together, you'll create unforgettable memories filled with love and adventure.

He is still available for adoption but is currently at Jeff City Correctional Center in the Puppies for Parole program and won't be back at the shelter until April 10th.

More about this shelter

Dogwood Animal Shelter is a non-profit, no-kill shelter.

Since its infancy, compassionate, like-minded volunteers have been the driving force behind Dogwood Animal Shelter. Through auctions and sales, a handful of dedicated people raised enough money to build its first, albeit small facility and was established as a 501(c) 3 in 1976. It was filled beyond capacity almost immediately.

The shelter is funded entirely from donations and proceeds from their Dogwood Animal Shelter Thrift Store.

After years of saving, planning and busting at the seams with fur-babies, in 2005 it was time to build a new facility with their own in-house clinic! Under the direction of Dr. John Reinhold and coupled with a very dedicated and gifted team of Veterinarians and staff, Dogwood Animal Shelter continues to offer low cost spays and neuters to the public as well as services to their shelter buddies; services to approximately 2,000 dogs and cats yearly!

Dogwood Animal Shelter began their journey of being a successful no-kill shelter in 1997, and since then has saved over 40,000 lives!
