My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sky is losing her foster home through no fault of her own so she is also available to foster or through our foster to adopt program.

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! Sky is a two year old, 50 lb suspected hound shepherd maybe husky mix with stunning blue eyes. Boy oh boy is she bursting with personality! Sky is just the sweetest love bug. You can often catch her laid out on her back, legs fully stretched out, expecting her favorite ear rubs, belly scratches, and nose kisses.

Sky is really part floppy stuffed animal, part kangaroo, and part gazelle. She loves to play and definitely has some young dog energy. She enjoys stretching her legs and running circles in the yard. She's incredibly intelligent but also such a goofball. Sky is dog friendly and would be happy with or without a fur pal in her forever home.

She tolerates the crate and is pretty close with house training as long as she's kept on a schedule. She can get her snore on pretty good. She’s highly food motivated which makes training with her fun. She gets very excited for visitors so she’s working on settling down with new friends in her foster home. We’d suggest a family with sturdy or dog savvy kids 8+ because she has lots of puppy energy and is still learning all her good girl manners that come with continued training and time.

She really is such a sweet, lovable girl and loves to give and receive all the love. She will make one lucky family so very happy! Email almosthome4dogs@yahoo.com to meet Sky with the baby blues!

(Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.)

PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US!  We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families. Come and meet the Almost Home dogs and their fosters at our Meet & Greet events, where you can learn more about our wonderful dogs from the people who live with them, find out which dogs are on their way and when they’ll arrive, and fill out an application to adopt or foster.

We cannot adopt to homes where electric-shock fencing systems or training collars are used. For more information on the dangers of electric-shock collars, please visit banshockcollars.ca/studies.php and http://www.hollysden.com/say_no_to_shock.htm (scroll down and click on the  "Invisible Fencing Systems" link).

We do not have an online adoption application; to request an application, e-mail us at AlmostHome4Dogs@yahoo.com. To speed e-mail processing time, be sure to note the name of the dog you are inquiring about in the Subject line. For Meet & Greet times and locations, visit our home page, where you also will find information on our adoption process and fees.

FOSTER FAMILIES ARE LIFESAVERS!! Can you open your heart and home for a few weeks to homeless shelter dog? Remember, by fostering a dog, you save TWO lives — that of your foster dog, and that of the dog who takes his place in the shelter! Come to a Meet & Greet and find out if fostering is for you — there's no reward quite like the feeling that you've saved a life ... or two!

More about this rescue

We are a small group of volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy-mill and pet-store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for and ultimately the supply of such dogs. We strive to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home.
