My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*single male guinea pig
*agouti/white shorthair
*About 1 year old.
-Fred and Reggie were owner surrendered to us because the people who had them couldn’t keep them anymore. They had apparently taken them from little kids who were abusing them six months prior. Amazingly when we got them we noticed that Fred had a literal hole in his face. It looked like he had previous facial trauma that healed over. The person who had him had never taken him to the vet at all the whole time they had him and said he never had any health issues. We took him into our vet to investigate and turns out he had a festering abscess that had not been treated for at least 6 months that ate into his skull and front of his face. We have spent months with him on antibiotics, with his face getting cleaned out, and flushed. He is now quite healed up and doing wonderfully, so we think he is ready to find a home. Fred is amazing. He loves attention, he loves people and ear scritches, and barely even runs when you try and pick him up. He is just the loveliest boy who loves soft beds and blankets, and lots of chews and snackies (he loves hay!). Fred still has a hole in his face, and he will always have a hole in his face. Adopter would need to monitor it to make sure that he doesn't get an infection again. He would need to be kept on bedding with either recycled newspaper bedding or something low dust. Fred also has a small white spot on his eye which the vet said would just need to be monitored to make sure it doesn't grow or affect his vision. Probably from past trauma. Fred and Reggie broke up while Fred was being treated so he is a single piggy now and we feel like he'd rather stay that way. Ideal home for Fred would be a vet or a vet tech who can spoil the pants off him for the rest of his life because he deserves it!
